Welcome

Bulbagarden Archives logo.png
Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, SnorlaxMonster!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your uploading:

The Manual of Style, or MoS, outlines the format and guidelines of all images on Bulbagarden Archives.

All of our administrators are here to help! Talk to them if you have any questions or problems with the Archives.

Tagging images with correct licenses and categories is a must. These guidelines will help you learn more about tagging images.

Miscellaneous
  • Please read the checklist when you upload media files. The checklist is there to make sure you are doing everything necessary when uploading said media files.
  • Be sure to tag and categorize all images. This helps organize the vast amount of images we have here.
  • Check if your image already exists by searching through categories, and Bulbapedia pages. This action will help prevent unnecessary duplicates from appearing.
  • When adding a licensing tag to anime or game screenshots, please avoid just choosing "Screenshot". This is not descriptive and places the images in the wrong category. Make sure to choose "Screenshot from a Pokémon game," or "Screenshot from the Pokémon anime." This will put them in the right categories, and help keep the Archives clean.
  • Does your image have a purpose? Will you be using it on a Bulbagarden Project? Avoid uploading images because you think they are "Cute" or "Awesome". That clutters the Archives.
  • Personal images are limited to two for each User. Personal images include personal logos, personal trainer sprites, drawings, trainer cards and mostly any image that would only be used in the User: namespace and have no encyclopedic value to Bulbagarden and its affiliates. Please tag these with the {{i-Personal}} template for easier organization. Under no circumstance should a photograph of one's self ever be uploaded onto Bulbagarden Archives.
  • In addition, please upload images with meaningful names. Names that are just numbers, for example, do not describe anything about the image, and can make it difficult for searchers. Names are just as important as licenses and categories, so make them descriptive. Please be sure that the filenames contain alphanumeric characters only.
  • Due to the many automated templates used on the wiki, lowercase extensions are imperative. That means jpg and png instead of JPG and PNG. It looks cleaner, it works better, and it does not cause any problems. Make sure to always use lowercase extensions.
  • If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide.
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here!

Files

Here's how it works. 001.png. File:001.png. Got it? ht14 00:54, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

OK, thanks. --SnorlaxMonster 01:55, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Reason

Hey SM, I am here to explain my previous edit. Bulba archives encourages to upload images with the png extensions instead of jpgs for the quality reason and it is also necessary to upload a transparent version (no whitish background) of an image. As you can see the major difference between these two images. File:PokemonRanger Character 02.jpg File:PokemonRanger Character 02.png

Now, tell me isn't there a big difference in both images? Is the quality and transparency of both images looks same? ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 13:54, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't mean that I didn't understand the reason. I meant that you should put it in the delete template. I understand why you did it. --SnorlaxMonster 06:35, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Oh, my bad. I'll take care this thing next time. Anyway, thanks for the help. --♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 09:33, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Route 10 HGSS

No, talk to Gabo 2oo about correcting the image of Route 10. You can see an item (Poké Ball) in the image, please remove the item (TM Rock Polish) soon? --Rodney 23:42, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Well, you could have replied on the talk page of Route 10 HGSS, but here is good too. I suggest you go talk to Gabo 2oo about it. I also fixed your writing to how I interpreted it. If you disagree, change it back.--SnorlaxMonster 00:59, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Screenshots with walking Pokémon

If it's got Celebi as the walking Pokémon, there's a 99.9% chance you should not be using it. It's always best to take your own screenshots rather than "stealing" from other sites. —darklordtrom 08:09, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

They're all from PokéWiki. As far as I know, the purpose of Encyclopaediae Pokémonis is that we can use information without it being "stealing". --SnorlaxMonster 08:13, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
Also, I checked (after you messaged me) and couldn't find that picture anywhere on Serebii, especially here. --SnorlaxMonster 08:46, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
Wrong page. The thing is, if it has a Celebi, it's from his site. It's his watermark. If another EP member takes it, we still can't take it from them. Serebii doesn't like Bulbapedia using images from his site, and we like it less. —darklordtrom 08:51, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Personal images

These should be in this category only. Personal images do not get other categories. —darklordtrom 12:17, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Alright sorry about the questiomarks. Didn't know they were "Bad.

Just make sure you replace all the locations where the image is used on the page in the future when remaining/replacing images. Koolboyman 16:58, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Janoby/Janobii

...I thought Janobii would be a more appropriate translation for ジャノビー. Anyway, you don't save and reupload; we move it. Thanks, Kevzo8 12:38, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm going by what Bulbanews gives me. Also, I reuploaded because you deleted it while I was saving it, which messed everything up. Then I had to try and fix the problems that the non-edit conflict caused. --SnorlaxMonster 12:42, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Congratulations

Thanks for all the hard work you've done on the Archives. Welcome aboard the new team. I trust that you will use your new superpower well and help keep this place organized. There's always stuff to do on the Archives and we depend on people like you to keep things smooth! (I hope you'll be more active here now too). Jellotalk 09:27, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

The Templates

When are those templates going to be moved? Pattyman 16:10, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Fine by me. Pattyman 16:32, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

JP Crystal Jynx sprite

That gonna be the hardest one (since it looks I need to do it the legit way)... I just considered that I would had to hatch the Odd Egg until I would get Shiny Smoochum... since normally chance for shiny is just too low to get it fast (last time I got shiny that way was... ~1 month ago, and the second-to-last was so long ago that I don't remember the date, and actually it was first with 1 to 8192 chance), and breeding for shiny Smoochum is impossible due to that no Pokémon before RSE had any Pokémon that were in Human-like and another group (was considering chain breeding from Red Gyarados... as Generation II is capable of breeding for shiny). Also, wtf is with counter on talk of main page? It says 290 out of 289 for GS Back sprites (both shiny and non-shiny) Marked +-+-+ 14:33, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

You could always try the Shiny Ditto glitch. Or you could just hack one in (easiest way). --SnorlaxMonster 15:15, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Hack in? Impossible, I can't find codes (for shiny) for JP Crystal, only English, and I don't think if there is stuff like Advance Map, but for Generation II in Japanese. I don't know if it's possible to trade Pokémon from English eg. Yellow to Japanese Crystal (as international trade was implemented in Generation III). Also, acidentally uploaded file under wrong name and it was impossible to move file as there was redirect there ._. (and I know that you are Senior Administrator) Marked +-+-+ 15:39, 8 September 2011 (UTC).

Wait. lolwut I just could use Jynx from English Crystal to trade it to Yellow, then to JP Crystal (since I managed to link Yellow to JP Crystal... it's Japanese, due to everything in Japanese and party being other than English games). YEEEES. Marked +-+-+ 16:06, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

FUUUU doesn't work (the party of JP Crystal appears glitchy in Yellow and Crystal itself can't connect). And the Pokémon Comunnication Center is screwed. ._. Marked +-+-+ 16:22, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Oh. I just remember that I have Japanese Gold (or Silver? It's translated to Trademarked... I think, it could be Hepburn) and I am capable of 100% shiny encounter stuff. Now just gonna trade it to Crystal. Marked +-+-+ 12:33, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

That's great! Yeah, I knew about my promotion. I was talking to PsychicRider on AIM at the time anyway (the person who promoted me). Carmen handled the image you uploaded under the wrong name. I don't think inter-language trading is possible in Gens I and II either (although your testing seemed to prove that). Also, I think the Shiny Ditto glitch would have saved a bit of time if you have Japanese R/B/Y, but hacking is easier of course. --SnorlaxMonster 04:51, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Although a bit late...

Thanks for getting the two templates (mva and aba ones) approved. I appreciate it. For the two parter moves such as Aipom being hit by Flash, how do I handle those? I did start on some of them. Pattyman 15:34, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Well, for that one, the name should be File:Roserade Flash Aipom.png (no pun intended). Even if it is a Pokémon being hit by an attack, focus on the user. For images with multiple moves being used, just put another template on for each move. --SnorlaxMonster 15:38, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Except that that image wasn't used (I checked and it wasn't in a switch on Ash's Aipom or Gardenia's page) so I deleted it. --SnorlaxMonster 15:40, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
On the right track. Pattyman 16:00, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
The image of Sudowoodo using Flamethrower after using Mimic wasn't Brock's. In fact, it was a wild Sudowoodo using it from the Johto saga. I took a screenshot from the episode before uploading it. Pattyman 16:15, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

animated sprites

What's the policy on animated sprites? Are we doing those for DPPt/HGSS or BW? There seems to be some people uploading the Gen IV animations - how are those getting created? --Jdthebud 07:35, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

All sprites with the prefix "Spr" should be animated (if they are animated). Pure number filenames like File:001.png are not. I don't know how it is done (you're better off asking someone doing it that question), but they must all be uploaded as animated PNG files. --SnorlaxMonster 12:12, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Fire Spin/Flamethrower

Should the filename of this image stay as it is or can it be moved to Flamethrower? There wasn't really any evidence of it using Fire Spin. Pattyman 19:05, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, it should be moved. Unless someone checks the original and it was Fire Spin (based on this, I've already checked the dub), it should be Flamethrower. --SnorlaxMonster 01:10, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Linking TCG/TFG images

We don't link them... err... rather, it's optional but not necessary. You could surf around most of the TCG images and you'll see that those are not linked. ht14 18:58, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

There isn't really any reason not to link them. TCG isn't linked because, well, it would be a huge effort to do it. Ideally, both would just use summary templates (which I intended to make once). --SnorlaxMonster 13:31, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Eh, I see it as redundant then... in any case, once the MediaWiki glitches and whatnot are fixed, then it really isn't necessary since the page where the file is linked to is already seen. ht14 21:02, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Game screenshots

I am going to need some help in this category with filling in missing summaries and moving some of the images to their necessary file names (the ones that are used) as I won't be able to do them all on my own. Pattyman 18:28, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

MD sprites

As seeing some are just way too big or small, I am resizing them (and uploading some). But some, like Articuno's are bigger than 32x32 (resized Rayquaza to 64x67, where actual sprite is 61x67). What about size of such big sprites? Marked +-+-+ 17:00, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, I have no idea what the size should be. Just stick to 32x32 if they fit in that, otherwise just make the dimentions equal (so Rayquaza would be 67x67). --SnorlaxMonster 01:55, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Old Matriarch

Should the Old Matriarch be categorized as Character of the day, or just no category for her? G50 10:52, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Well, if she did get a category it would be under her English name of elder anyway, but since even rivals like Georgia don't get their own category, I don't think she needs one. --SnorlaxMonster 10:55, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Okay. G50 10:59, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

The Generation III berry sprites

Are you planning on reuploading those soon, or are they permanently being deleted? If it's permanent, than could you please give me a copy of the files? I would really appreciate it. Thank you! --Abcboy (talk) 01:51, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

No, we weren't planning on reuploading them any time soon. Because the images are unused GIF images and we don't have all the different stages (only the Berry-bearing stage), we decided it was better to get a new rip and get all the stages together as PNGs (and hopefully animated). Our French counterpart has all of the images we had and several more. --SnorlaxMonster 12:14, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Can you pass on this edit to user rights I think would be good? No mainspace edits to all users sort of like the File: namespace back on Bulbapedia. --Abcboy (talk) 23:57, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
I don't understand what you're asking. Could you read over your message or rephrase it? --SnorlaxMonster 03:23, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Have you noticed how most users can't edit File: or File talk: on Bulbapedia? This is the same thing except for the main namespace, because practically everything here is in the File: namespace. It also would curb vandalism. --Abcboy (talk) 03:27, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Bulbapedia's File namespace is just a mirror of the Archives one, so users aren't supposed to edit it. The File talk namespace is local to Bulbapedia, so it does not mirror the Archives one; we used to allow the creation of File talk namespace pages on Bulbapedia, but we decided that since they were far too hard to notice and track on Bulbapedia, so the usage of File talk is restricted to the Archives. It is so much easier to track File talk namespace on the Archives than on Bulbapedia. --SnorlaxMonster 03:36, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
No, I want the main namespace blocked here. --Abcboy (talk) 03:38, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
When I was searching on Bulbapedia, I saw the new Learnset: namespace. I'm guessing it is for the learnsets? --Abcboy (talk) 04:04, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
The existence of Category:Texts makes locking the mainspace here an issue. I thought it would be a good idea, but people higher than me want to keep the Archives open for storing texts as well, and a single spammer isn't really enough justification to lock the entire namespace. The learnset namespace was something TTE was trying to set up ages ago, but nothing came of it, not everyone really liked the idea, and he has since been permanently banned.--SnorlaxMonster 08:28, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Gen. VI moves

Some of the early images depict new attacks introduced in Gen. VI. What do you want to do about them? Pattyman (talk) 23:31, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Werdane doesn't want to move any images yet. We've got a long time and no new shots of known moves (as in, we don't know for sure what the moves are). --SnorlaxMonster 14:07, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Very well then. Pattyman (talk) 15:35, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Stoutland's Tackle

Can you restore the image of Burgundy's Stoutland using Tackle? I found a good use for it somewhere and reuploading it wouldn't be necessary. Pattyman (talk) 19:12, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

The link is File:Burgundy Stoutland Tackle.png. Pattyman (talk) 01:12, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
It has been restored. --SnorlaxMonster 10:18, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

On Boxes

Seeing as I've been chewed out for jumping the gun on my templates before, I was hoping you would give my Box Wallpaper template a final look over before it gets moved to the mainspace. - Chosen of Mana 22:29, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

I removed the align=center as it is already width=100% so doesn't need aligning. Also, you shouldn't be using align= anymore anyway; it's depreciated HTML and the new code is detailed here. The reason this is important is a while ago we updated MediaWiki and it didn't recognize align= and all our template alignments got messed up, so we're gradually trying to replace it. Otherwise, the template looks fine. --SnorlaxMonster 08:08, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

I left a message before on the Science and Pokémon: Pokémon eggs talk page about the fanmade sprite of Skitty and Wailord, unless you were aware about it. By the way, thank you for deleting those redirects of the moved files. Pattyman (talk) 04:32, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Glitch images

Hey man, I have been tackling the Candidates for moving and I noticed a bunch of glitch Pokémon's sprites need to be moved to the new standard. Great! Except, when I tried to move these four images: File:Gmp1.png, File:PokedollarGlitch.png, File:RBGlitchFA.png, and File:YGlitchCD.png, it said the destination filename was taken. I didn't move them yet cause the other pics look different so I didn't want to mess around with anything (I know some glitch Pokémon can have common sprites but it's not something I am super knowledgeable about) anyway, since you are project leader, I was wondering if you could help me out with this or point me in the right direction. Thanks!! --ZestyCactus 21:53, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

Large overworld weather anipng

Hi there, I was recommended to pass these questions on to you by G50.
I have been working on animating the overworld weather conditions, and the last one I need to upload is the Tornadus/Thunderus summoned "thunderstorm" in BW. However, the file I get is over 4 MB because a) 60fps, and b) extremely high detail with the amount of rain on the screen, and there is a certain length to the animation. Obviously I will need a staff member to upload it for me, but I wanted to ask what you would consider the limit for the size. Is over 4 MB too much? Here is probably the best one I made time-wise - it's over 4 MB: Thunderstorm V. It's worth noting that I experimented with 30 fps, but it barely dropped the file size and the animation didn't look as clean as it needed to be. Let me know what you think, and if necessary, I may be able to tinker a little more with the frames to get a smaller file.
- On a somewhat related note, would you classify this weather to be Heavy rain or Thunderstorm? I don't think there is any lightning flashes, but there could be thunder? It may help to look at the Rain page - I did describe it as a Thunderstorm there, but it may need to be changed. Jdthebud (talk) 02:03, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

ORAS Hoenn maps

Just wondered, I've got the clean HQ in-game Hoenn map using images from the Official Site (example here but I don't know whether to upload them over the current maps, or upload them at new file names? Or should I wait for the current maps to be moved to new file names and then upload them then? --S2daam (talk) 23:02, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

Eventually, we're going to want the ORAS maps and have them at the existing filenames; however, that would necessitate purging all the images, which we don't have time for right now. For the time being, hold off on uploading ORAS maps for old locations over existing maps. However, for new locations you're welcome to upload ORAS maps. --SnorlaxMonster 03:36, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

How can I overwrite it? BowserBrowser (talk) 21:03, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

In order to upload images on the Archives, you must become autoconfirmed. To do that, you have to have made a small number of edits and had an account for a specific amount of time (we don't disclose the exact amounts publicly to deter people from deliberately making that many edits and waiting that long). In order to get edits on the Archives, you can help out with categorization and standardization.
Where did you get it? I can upload it for you if you want. --SnorlaxMonster 06:16, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
My e-mail is [email protected]. I can send it privately to you there. BowserBrowser (talk) 20:55, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Uploading of Gen VI screenshots

Hi, I would like to upload screenshots of the Pokemon summary screen to illustrate the use of the Masuda method, and the language tags present on the summary screen. I intend to upload two of these images, one of a foreign language Pokemon, and one of a Pokemon of the same language. While I don't have a capture card, I can take in-game screenshots through NTR. Please advise on what I should do regarding this. (info regarding the changes to the article) Thank you! Chenzw (talk) 04:54, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Sure. Just take a screenshot of the summary screen of a Caterpie nicknamed "Chenzw", upload it to an external image host (not the Archives), and link it to me. --SnorlaxMonster 10:17, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
I have uploaded the screenshots to this imgur album. Chenzw (talk) 10:41, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. Feel free to upload screenshots from the 3DS games now. --SnorlaxMonster 10:51, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Archives permission

What do I do in order to get access to the archives? I sign up for bulbapedia just for the archives. and no one had talk to me about this.--Bluetails (talk) 07:32, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

What do you mean by access? The Archives can be viewed by anyone. If you're asking about how to get permission to upload images, you must first become autoconfirmed. To become autoconfirmed your account needs to have existed for at least a short time and have at least a small number of edits (the specific values are not public knowledge). See Archives:FAQ#How do I upload? for further information. --SnorlaxMonster 10:10, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Do edits on Bulbapedia don't count for unlocking the ability to upload images on archives? I've already done a Lot of edits on the mainspace.--Bluetails (talk) 11:02, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
They do not, unfortunately. --SnorlaxMonster 11:04, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
Ok then, I will probably keep an eye on anything that can be edited on the archives since I don't usually go there often --Bluetails (talk) 11:10, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Error(s) in anime head images

If a particular head image also happens to contain an animation/colouring error, is it still okay to leave that image as it is, or should a replacement be located instead? File:XY125.png has a colouring error which the Bulbapedia article also points out. Chenzw (talk) 12:29, 24 July 2016 (UTC)

I think it would be a good idea to avoid images with animation errors for anime head images. --SnorlaxMonster 13:15, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. I have uploaded a replacement. A bit of a shame, though; I personally thought that the previous revision was one of the better ones that were relevant to the episode title. Chenzw (talk) 14:36, 24 July 2016 (UTC)

Upload permission

Hello, SnorlaxMonster. About six months ago, my permission to upload Generation VI move images was revoked, and I'd like to personally apologize for abusing my upload power. In the six months that I've had to reflect upon my actions, I've certainly learned my lesson and will never abuse any power or permission I'm given ever again. But onto the main point, I remember you said that me being able to upload move images again "wasn't something for the foreseeable future", and since that's vague, and it's been, again, six months, I just thought I should ask if my permission could be re-granted (especially since Generation VII is being release very soon). If not, then I'd appreciate it if you could tell me what I need to do to be able to get it re-granted. Again, I'm sorry for all the trouble I may have caused you, and I have learned my lesson (specifically, to never upload move images from channels I wasn't given permission from). Thanks for listening :) I am Mikoro (wanna talk?) 19:39, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

We'll review your case one year after the ban was imposed. --SnorlaxMonster 01:27, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Apparent flying type z-move

It is now revealed that the screenshot shows a STEEL type z-move: Corkscrew Crash, it needs editing. Mrkubatt 98 (talk) 12:09, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Mrkubatt_98

File:Stadium GS JP boxart.png

I noticed that this image which you uploaded in 2012 appears to be a promotional flyer rather than the actual box art. I own a boxed copy of the game and could scan it (the background is metallic and won’t scan well, but there doesn’t seem to be any better image of the box art available). Before I do, do you want to move the existing image to a different name? —Háčky (talk) 01:42, 6 May 2017 (UTC)

Huh, you're right, that certainly does appear to be a poster rather than box art. I've moved it (although I'm not sure where it would get used), so please go ahead and upload the actual box art. --SnorlaxMonster 03:24, 6 May 2017 (UTC)

Could you take a screenshot at a better resolution than 180 x 101? The other WTP images are all much higher resolution than that (for example, File:WTP SM004.png is 1,280 × 720 pixels). CITV is definitely not going to be airing episodes at 180 x 101, so I don't know why you're making them so small. --SnorlaxMonster 11:17, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Image getting cut off upon upload?

I noticed that this image was missing a segment at the bottom, visible here (note where it says "detachable base"), so I tried to upload the uncut version. However, for some reason the image I put up was automatically cut, so the missing segment is missing again. When comparing the "full" and "cut" versions, it also seems like the margins on all sides have been cut (notice the right tip of the 'Y' is cut", so maybe the image was automatically zoomed in?

I don't think this was caused by the image being too large dimension- or data-wise, as the new version is only 800x566 and 239KB. Both new and old versions are in png, so a format conflict doesn't seem to be it, either. Any idea why this is happening, and how I can fix it? --Boblers (talk) 00:59, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

I think it was just that the cache hadn't updated yet. Right now, the Archives image seems to perfectly match the Imgur link. --SnorlaxMonster 01:42, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

Reducing data size of png files?

I found these two images, and I'm pretty sure they should be uploaded in png format. Their dimensions are fine but their data sizes are too big, at 2.85MB and 2.5MB respectively. How do I reduce their data sizes? Converting them to jpg's seems to work, but since these aren't photos/scans I don't think that would be appropriate. --Boblers (talk) 19:06, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

I downloaded and resaved them in GIMP and they dropped to 1.52 MB and 1.74 MB respectively. Have you tried that? If you can't reproduce that, let me know and I'll just upload them instead. --SnorlaxMonster 05:39, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
Looks like that works on my end as well, thanks! The photo editor I've been using is paint.net, but it seems like GIMP is much better with compression. --Boblers (talk) 09:15, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

EP001 remastered

Hi. I already said this on Kogoro's talk page, but didn't get an answer. I have the EP001 remastered in Blu-ray quality. The original resolution is 1440x1040. I wanna upload 51 shots of it, but I have one question. Should I upload them at their original resolution or should I resize them to 1280x924? If the original resolution is preferable, there are 7 shots that are between 2.01 and 2.17MB, making it impossible for me to upload them (I've already runned them on PNG Monstrous). I'd like to upload them at their original resolution considering that the 1280 limit is only a recommendation, but there is the size problem. I can also upload some of them so you can see if the quality is worth the size. I plan on doing whatever you think is the best. --rafael.zinho (talk) 20:13, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

Images uploaded to the archives shouldn't exceed 1280px in their maximum dimension. (We make exceptions for game maps, but not anime screenshots.) If you want to upload them, please keep them within that limit.
I personally use FileOptimizer, which provides really compact (but slow) lossless PNG compression (among other things). See if you can get them under 2 MB using that. --SnorlaxMonster 09:38, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
I'll resize them to 1280x924 then. All of them will probably be under 2MB after that. Thanks. --rafael.zinho (talk) 20:36, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

Uploading 3DS screenshots

Hi! I'm currently uploading and upgrading multiple screenshots for Generation VII moves. One user noticed me about informing one member of the council before doing that and I'm sorry if I didn't before. Can I go on with my uploads? Do I need to provide some sort of proof to demonstrate I'm not stealing material from third parts? Thanks.Criққѳ~* 17:59, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Yes, we try to get users to confirm they are the ones who originally captured 3DS screenshots. Could you upload an image of a Caterpie nicknamed Crikko (to an external site, not the Archives) in Sun/Moon or Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon? Just send me the link so I can confirm. --SnorlaxMonster 02:12, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
There you are :) Proof - Thanks! --Criққѳ~* 15:56, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. Feel free to continue uploading 3DS screenshots then. --SnorlaxMonster 12:28, 27 March 2018 (UTC)

USUM title screens

I took screenshots of the title screens for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, but while uploading, I noticed that title screens for USUM that were previously uploaded were uploaded without permission and deleted. I was wondering if I could have permission to upload them. Celadonkey (talk) 01:19, 2 July 2018 (UTC)

We make sure that users do actually have the ability to take 3DS screenshots before giving them permission to do so, in order to prevent taking images from other sites. Could you upload an image of a Mudbray nicknamed Celadonkey (to an external site, not the Archives) in Sun/Moon or Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon? Just send me the link so I can confirm. --SnorlaxMonster 10:13, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
Does this work? Celadonkey (talk) 01:58, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
Hey, sorry for the late reply. I guess that will do, although do note you didn't actually follow my instructions. --SnorlaxMonster 14:07, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
Oh, I'm sorry. I'm used to using a different username online so I got a little mixed up. I hope that's okay. Celadonkey (talk) 22:25, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Separate shiny images for Diancie and Mega Diancie (for use on long-overdue Diancie usertag)

Given that you uploaded File:Shiny Diancie Mega Evolution.png, can you please carefully extract the Shiny Diancie and Shiny Mega Diancie images from the background and upload them as individual, transparent-background images of the same size as their non-shiny Global Link counterparts (File:719Diancie Dream.png and File:719Diancie Mega Dream.png)? I am trying to make a usertag for Diancie using the Dream images (because Diancie has no Black/White-style sprites) and want to accommodate both Shiny and Shiny Mega images into the coding. I cannot use the Spr_6x_, Spr_6o_, or Spr_7s_ images because they have too much transparent padding around and the MediaWiki software does not allow for cropping images invoked using the [[File:image.png|size]] construct. --SilSinn (Pokémon Sun TID: 768426; Pokémon Ultra Moon TID: 123446) (talk) 08:23, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

For comparison (non-shiny; roundy template not invoked for simplicity):

719Diancie Dream.png This user has a Diancie.
719Diancie Mega Dream.png This user has a Mega Diancie.

versus:

Spr 6x 719.png This user has a Diancie.
Spr 6x 719 s.png This user has a Shiny Diancie.
Spr 6o 719M.png This user has a Mega Diancie.
Spr 6o 719M s.png This user has a Shiny Mega Diancie.
You're wrong: this IS possible, as this is what Pk-fan did on his user page... I think you could just look at his Crystal Pikachu award (Kristallenes Pikachu). The image is cropped. PokéWiki uses this template for Pokémon der Woche. If we used this on Bulbawiki, the template would be named {{image-cutout}} and use this complex code:
<div style="margin: 0.25em 0 0.4em 0.4em; float:{{{float|right}}};{{#ifeq:{{{float|right}}}|left|margin-right:0.5em;}}width:{{#expr:{{{boxW|100}}}*{{{factor|1}}} round 0}}px; height:{{#expr:{{{boxH|100}}}*{{{factor|1}}} round 0}}px; overflow:hidden;"><div style="float:left; margin-left:-{{#expr:{{{right|0}}}*{{{factor|1}}} round 0}}px; margin-top:-{{#expr:{{{down|0}}}*{{{factor|1}}} round 0}}px;" title="{{{MO|{{{link}}}}}}">
{{#if:{{{url|}}}|<div style="margin-left:{{#expr:-({{{imageW}}}-{{{imageW}}}*{{{factor|1}}})/2 round 0}}px;margin-top:{{#expr:-({{{imageH}}}-{{{imageH}}}*{{{factor|1}}})/2 round 0}}px"><div style="float:left;transform:scale({{{factor|1}}}); -moz-transform:scale({{{factor|1}}}); -webkit-transform:scale({{{factor|1}}}); -o-transform:scale({{{factor|1}}}); -ms-transform:scale({{{factor|1}}}); -khtml-transform:scale({{{factor|1}}})">[{{SERVER}}/{{{link}}} {{{url}}}]</div></div>
|[[File:{{{file}}}|{{#expr:{{{imageW}}}*{{{factor|1}}} round 0}}px|link={{{link}}}{{!}}{{{MO|{{{link}}}}}}]]}}</div></div>
where:
{{image-cutout
|file = File name with extension. Used instead of url.
|url = URL address of the file. Used instead of image.
|imageW = Width of the image in pixels
|imageH = Height of the image in pixels (must be given only when the parameter url is used)
|link = Name of the article, to which the picture links
|MO = Mouseover text
|boxW = Width of the cutout in pixels
|boxH = Height of the cutout in pixels
|right = Where the image cutout starts from the left in pixels
|down = Where the image cutout starts from above in pixels
|factor = scaling factor of the image (e.g. 75% → 0.75)
|float = left/right
}}
I hope I helped. --TheICTLiker4piszże do mnie 19:15, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

This user has a Diancie.
But I think I will need to experiment with the numbers to get the height to 60 pixels. I think the white padding and no B/W styled sprites have a purpose: to prevent other users thinking the images are from an external website, which would lead the Archives to be closed forever and the wikis wouldn't have any files. Also, PLEASE read this message for more information. Yeah, Kogoro wants from us NOT to upload files from external websites, such as fan sprites (fan artworks were not permitted since 2011). --TheICTLiker4piszże do mnie 15:45, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

Pokemon Masters

Hello SnorlaxMonster. Nowadays I'm mostly playing this game and started to helping to edit responding pages. During my contribute I realized some missing icons, pictures and wanna upload them. However I dont have permission to upload any pictures. I hope you are the right person to ask permission to upload any pictures. Ozderya (talk) 08:44, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

Where did you get these icons and pictures from? We don't want to take images from other websites without their permission. If you obtained them yourself, or got permission from another website to use (e.g. users on the Spriter's Resource normally specify whether reuse is permitted, and whether it requires attribution), then they would be fine to upload. --SnorlaxMonster 10:08, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
I'm getting every single icons by myself. Getting screenshot from my cellphone and using my computer (Paint 3D) to clean sprites. --(Ozderya (talk) 10:15, 26 December 2019 (UTC))

Hello, I'm new here

I would like to upload some images for moves in Gen VIII, but it's not easy to get autoconfirmed status here. Do you think you can point me in the right direction? MasterBraixen96 (talk) 21:20, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Please read this thread. --TheICTLiker4 16:52, 14 January 2020 (UTC)

Question

Can I upload the following graphics:

  • Pokémon menu icons that have been changed since Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee, and Sword/Shield.
  • 3D models from Let's Go/Sword/Shield.

WARNING: None of these images will be animated. --TheICTLiker4 16:49, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

We don't have a naming scheme for those menu icons yet unfortunately.
How do you have 3D models? Did you prepare those images yourself? Lady Ariel is working on getting images of them, but it's a difficult process. --SnorlaxMonster 22:41, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
We would move all obsolete Pokémon menu icons to Sm<number>MS.png. Sm will stand for small. However, those that weren't changed since USUM will not be moved. Also, do I help out really well with move screenshots from Sword and Shield? TheICTLiker4 15:04, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

Something to say

Since I cannot be autoconfirmed, may I upload images? Jordan Baumann (talk) 20:00, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

You must edit some file pages and have your account exist for some time. Both values are kept secret. --TheICTLiker4 17:19, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

James Victreebel Razor Leaf.png

I'm looking to upgrade several images, can you confirm what episode you got James Victreebel Razor Leaf.png from?--BigDocFan (talk) 11:01, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

I can't say that I remember. However, in most cases I would have specifically looked up the episode credited as the Pokémon's first use of that move, which in the case of Victreebel is EP095. If it's not that, your best bet would be to check other images I uploaded around the same time and see if you can pinpoint the episodes those came from (since the only time I would have screenshotted from a non-debut episode is if I happened to come across it while screenshotting other moves). --SnorlaxMonster 02:57, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Urgent image moving request

Is there a process to speed up specific image moving requests? I've noticed that there are many images that have been waiting to be moved for years now. This is troubling, since the particular image I've requested to be moved is currently promoting a speculation as a fact with its filename, and the longer it remains with the current filename the more confusion it will cause. Tempest370 (talk) 18:57, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

"9" in Roman Numerals is "IX", not "XI" :)

Hello! Just wanted to let you know — you might want to fix it on Template:Menu sprite: "9" in Roman Numerals is actually "IX", not "XI" (which is 11)! Also, on regular-Bulbapedia, should I quickly finish up my "making the neighboring mons' images show up in the header (if image files already exist for them)" thing for the last 30 Pokémon pages? I might just quickly finish it up before going to sleep just so everything's at least consistent (and there's no sign of speculative NatDex numbers on any individual mon's page) before I head to sleep lol -Paintspot Infez (talk) 09:31, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Image histories

Despite being informed, this user has uploaded some images at a newer filename than existing images instead of uploading new versions of the existing images. Now, it is possible that since the images were named differently, the user simply did not know they existed, so I'll leave this part upto you, but in the meantime, would it be possible for you to merge the histories of File:Ash Pikachu debut.png & File:Ash choosing Pikachu.png, and File:Lillie choosing Snowy.png & File:Lillie and Snowy meeting.png ? There may be some more instances than the ones I've found so far. Additionally, maybe all the files could be renamed to have a consistent naming system for all similar images? Thanks, → PikaTepig999 03:11, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

RE BlueSparkles: Could you be more specific about which images you believe are duplicates? File:Cerise Kanto Starters.png and File:Kanto starters anime.png clearly are, but the others I wasn't immediately able to spot another version of.
File:Ash Pikachu debut.png & File:Ash choosing Pikachu.png appear to be substantially different images showing different things, so I don't think it makes sense to merge them. Likewise for File:Lillie choosing Snowy.png & File:Lillie and Snowy meeting.png. --SnorlaxMonster 12:24, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
Ah, I also spotted that they uploaded File:Sinnoh starters in the anime.png which was a duplicate of File:Sinnoh Starter Pokémon.png, and they then subsequently had the original file deleted. I've renamed that to File:Sinnoh starters anime.png for consistency. Let me know if you spot any others. --SnorlaxMonster 12:37, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
While the images I mentioned above do seem different, they are still from the same scene, which is why I believe they should be merged since it is not necessary for both images to be present separately. The images are used for the purpose of showing a character meeting their starter, and thus the newly uploaded frame might even fit better on the pages which had the old image. Hope that makes sense. → PikaTepig999 19:29, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
While they are from the same scenes, they serve slightly different purposes. The Lillie images for example are both being used at the same time on the same page. For the Ash images, one depicts a move and the other does not. While I think you could make a case that one of each of those pairs is unnecessary as a separate image, I don't see them as being the exact same image. --SnorlaxMonster 00:11, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
I did feel that having both images is unnecessary, but if you think they can be allowed to remain, it is fine. → PikaTepig999 15:22, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
Additionally, if you can take a look at Candidates for deletion, there are a lot of renamed files that need their old file names deleted. Thanks. → PikaTepig999 15:22, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
