I was admiring the contributions from Moonboy65, when I noticed they had come to an abrupt end, on January 13, after what appears to be a disagreement with user Lewtwo over this image. Clearly he didn't appreciate the way he was spoken to. On looking through the talk pages of Lewtwo, it appears this abrasive response was not a one off, and it appears this Lewtwo likes to get their own way with scant regard for authority. I found this all very disconcerting, especially as it appears this Lewtwo is still editing without any change in their attitude, while Moonboy65 is still nowhere to be seen.  Finger (talk) 00:51, 28 March 2023 (UTC)

Re: Some quick notes
Hey Maverick Nate! I've been scanning some Pokemon cards of mine and thought I would upload them for the wiki (seeing how a lot of them are missing), so it's been pretty fun! :) I love contributing any way I can!
I actually didn't know about the 1280px image size restriction and was only aware of the file size limit, so I had been downsizing my scans and compressing them just to meet the 2mb requirement for use on the website. Would you be able to link me to the FAQ or page that has the information on image restrictions, etc.? I can't seem to find it lol. The original scans are very large to include as much detail as possible (for accurate preservation purposes mostly) so that's the reason the dimensions are as big as they are. But if you need the image size to be smaller, I'd be more than happy to oblige! Just let me know!
I guess I might as well ask, but is there a particular reason behind the image size limit? I understand the file size limit of course, but I'm curious about the dimension size one. Oh, and sorry about the initial "JPEG" naming of my image too. I must have left it that way by mistake. Thanks for informing me to use JPG instead of JPEG for extensions. I didn't know about that either, so I'll make sure my uploads use JPG from now on! :)
Thanks again!  King Kerog (talk) 09:18, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
:Ahh, so that explains why I couldn't find it, lol! And the point about not wanting to provide counterfeiters with super high resolution scans makes total sense. I can see why that rule would be in place for TCG scans at least. Perhaps the rule is just outdated when referring to all types of images? Like you were saying, maybe the rule listed on the main page should be revisited, or at least clarified if it applies only to specific types of images, e.g., TCG scans.
:Out of curiosity, I went looking for images with large dimensions and there are a lot uploaded. An example being: :File:Kotobukiya Iono and Bellibolt Naoki Saito.jpg. It's quite large at 2,893 × 4,093px, but it would also seem wrong to alter official art from the original source (Official website/twitter/etc.) just to meet the 1280px requirement. So I think your theory is right. Either way, to be safe I'll resize my scans to 1280px for now and if things change I'll upload the high res compressed versions!
:To answer your question about my collection: I have quite a lot of WotC cards that are in good condition. I think I have 600-700 cards? I don't remember the exact number, but it's all my collection from when I was a kid. Oh, and I definitely agree that it would be redundant to upload every reprint of each card lmao. When the only difference is one small symbol in the corner, it would be a total waste of time. I wasn't planning on uploading Base Set 2/Legendary scans if they had no changes from the original print.
:But anyways, you've been a great help and super informative, so thank you for all the assistance you've provided me with! King Kerog (talk) 12:02, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
Would a scan be a better image for this card?
Hi, I have a copy of Dragonite (Roaring Skies 52) (the Cosmos Holo version, if it matters) and I'd like to scan it for the Archives. However, I'm unsure if my scan would be necessary, because the existing image seems to be of good quality. The only things that my scan would offer over the existing image are the fact that it's a scan instead of a digital mockup, and it's in English instead of Japanese (which I don't think is necessary?). Should I leave it as is, or upload my scan? Here's an example of what my scans look like. Thanks. Porygon-man (talk) 22:19, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
:English language cards are always preferred over any Japanese cards, while scanned images are preferable to digital ones, so to answer your question quickly, yes if you were to upload the scan of the card you have, it would be very much appreciated and wanted :)  <span style="font-family:noteworthy;color:#FF1493">4iam</span><span style="font-family:papyrus;color:#8A2BE2">king</span> 01:14, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

Re: Personal scans
Original message: "Hi! I noticed you upload some card scans recently to replace some of our less desired images. That's great! I do have 2 requests that I hope you can fulfill with your scans going forward.
* The scan quality on :File:EnergyStadiumNeoDestiny99.jpg and File:CharizardDragonStorm3.jpg is a bit lower than we typically desire. The bottom text on Energy Stadium in particular is a bit difficult to make out accurately. I'm not confident what settings you are currently using, but I remember when I had that problem, I increased the DPI and the images started coming out in better quality.
* If possible, please try and get a tighter crop on your scans. Some of the whitespace creates enough of a size difference to affect the final output of the images on mobile. We try to get it as close to the edges as possible while also still including the gaps at the corners.
If you have any questions, please get in touch! Thanks."
Reply: Will do. I've started scanning the cards at 600 DPI instead of 300 DPI. I've rescanned Energy Stadium and Charizard, though I think I'll have to scan Energy Stadium at an even higher DPI because the copyright info at the bottom is still a little grainy. Better, but could still be improved. Of course, I'll resize them to the 1280 pixel limit.
*As for the whitespace, I will try my best, however, with the holofoil cards, sometimes the added weight of the holofoil causes a bend in the card, so that even when I straighten the image, when viewed head-on, the edges are not perfectly straight.
*While I've got you, I have a question about File:021276 P EREBU.jpg (and other files like it). I'll just copy and paste what I put on the talk page: Hi, I have scanned the English version of this card and would like to upload it. Which way is the the way to go:
::A) Simply upload over the existing image, change the licensing template, remove the "Cards from the official card database" category, and request a move
::B) Upload the English scan separately, replace the image on the Bulbapedia page, and nominate this (Japanese) version for deletion
Thanks for getting back to me! Porygon-man (talk) 05:20, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
:As long as you are trying your best to adhere to the advice, that's all I can really ask. I know sometimes other issues make it not reasonable, so just do what you can!
:We prefer option A. We like to preserve the history of the image in a transparent way so uploading over the old and adding the new tags is the way to go. Hope this helps! == Link templates ==
A few days ago, there was a discusssion in the discord about people being confused about which link templates are actually avaiable on the archives as opposed to bulbapedia. I sugeested having a page similar to BP:LLT, so I've written up a draft with available templates, how to use them, and examples. Only thing is I'm unsure of how to submit it for staff review. Should I create a page in my userspace similar to on pedia, or should I just send you a text file? I hope you can review this page soon so it'll be a help to editors. :To be honest, I trust this enough for you to publish it at Archives:List of link templates from the get go. I think any review that I'd do could easily just happen there. ::Thank you for your trust. I've included most of the templates from :Category:Link templates, although some templates might be missing due to being uncategorized. Additionally, some templates on BP were never created on the archives, such as template:pal, template:gal, template:al, template:hi, template:rf etc. (Not that they have to be created, since their use case on the archives is pretty low compared to BP, but just letting you know.) == Uploading scans with non-standard Holofoils ==
Hi Nate, I was wondering what our policy is when it comes to scans of cards with alternate holofoils. Specifically, I'm talking about BREAKpoint Suicune (SuicuneBREAKpoint30.jpg if it gets moved before you read this). The current scan is of the promo-only Cosmos Holo print, while the standard in-set BREAKpoint print is Sheen Holo. Is the "standard" holo preferred, or does it not matter? I have a few cards that need an English scan (such as XY Rhyperior) that I only own as the promo Cosmos Holo print. Would you like me to upload a scan of that Cosmos Holo, or leave it be until someone uploads the regular Sheen Holo print? Thanks. :Also, what about reverse holos or cards with stamped logos? Porygon-man (talk) 04:03, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
::I don't think we have a policy for alternate holos at this point; we have a handful in order to show them off on the Holofoil page, but I do know the standard print is usually prioritized. If it's the only one you own, as long as the scan is good quality, it should be fine. == Replacing older low-quality scans with higher-quality ones? ==
Hi, Nate, me again. I was wondering if you would object to me uploading higher quality scans over older, lower quality ones. For example, this is our current scan of Jungle Meowth, and this is my scan: . (I'd be uploading it directly from my computer, so it would have a .jpg extension) My rule of thumb would be if I have to squint to read the copyright info, it could use a better scan. I'm not expecting everyone's scans to meet this standard; I just figured since I already own some of the cards, I might as well make sure they have quality scans. Thanks! Porygon-man (talk) 02:35, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
:Yeah! If you want to replace things using that standard, go for it! MaverickNate 10:51, 24 October 2024 (UTC)

Anime characters

I created it... hope it's ok. I wasn't sure if you were being sarcastic, but I took a stab at it. It is sure a lot of images to categorize. Charizard sprite: The revenge

Why you banned me for a week? I only tag and categorize this sprite in the right categories! I put this in Category of Charizard, Custom Sprite and personal images. And Recived a BAN for this! If you sad that this is not place for fanart what this image is doing in the charizard article? This not Sugimori's official art work is a fanart! And there are a lot of other case like this! In other starter article is this same way, in the Category:Custom sprites, There is this, is a pretty custom sprite but unless and this another beatiful sprite, but unless too. Why only the sprite made by me can't be in the other categories?

Please reply me!

Well... if the project are dead what's the problem if I put the sprite there? Is a custom sprite! I only put the sprite there because I noticed that the edits sprite go to there! Well if you don't want that it happen again you must delete all custom project and all image that not be an original work of Nintendo. Like this and the other images that i sad before! Or you give the permisson for i put the sprite in Custom sprite! I only wanna this!

Pedraito 18:32, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Show me Sugimori's official Charizard artwork, plz. Umeko 19:08, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
So? Can I put the sprite in the real categories. I don't wanna be banned again!

Pedraito 21:18, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

No. Personal images belong only in the personal images category. I didn't put my personal images in the Steven category, even though he is featured in them. Because they belong only in the personal images category. So just keep it where it is, please. 梅子 21:23, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
Well...ok....but my sprite is so cool! Pedraito 21:42, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
This is cooler!!!
In all seriousness, thanks for finally agreeing to stick with just the personal images category (if I'm interpreting your comment correctly). No matter how awesome a personal image might be, if it's not going to be used in the mainspace, then it does not belong in any other categories. 梅子 23:07, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

35+ personal images... (sort of)

Hey, take a look at this page. I haven't looked at every single one of those images - there are 43 of them!! - but it looks like the user uploaded the majority of them to basically use as personal images (but tagged them as - of all things - screenshots). But I'm reluctant to warn her, or even go and tag them as personal images, because I figure Project Merchandise MIGHT find them useful (eight of the images on that page are being used on Poké Doll (plush))... but idk. Thoughts?

Also she has five other personal images. 梅子 20:38, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

We might be able to use those images, so don't count them. But use the too many personal warning template for the other five: on the wiki. MaverickNate 21:02, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Sorry.

My previous images have been deleted, sorry I was double posting the image earlier. I'm working on a bit of a project involving theories of the Gen V Pokémon on my user page. That mock up is going to be a bit of a place holder until the real image is revealed sometime in the future. If you have a problem with that, I can stop. Ninterror 21:24, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Need Some Help NATE !!!

Hey Nate, I need some help regarding some images. Today, I replaced almost 80 images which were supposed to be transparent and I want to replace all the images that needs to be transparent but they aren't. But I am facing some problem in editing Art from Pokémon Red and Green images and Pinball sprites. Because pinball spirits are in gif extension (animated pics) which I can't edit for some reasons. In Pinball pics, when I tried to make them transparent then only 1 frame appears instead of a complete animation and in Red & Green pics, I am unable to remove the white portion. So, can you tell me the solution of solving it please? --♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 13:07, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

From what I know about making images transparent, it's apparently a lot easier to convert then to a different format. However, I haven't done anything like that, so I'm not completely sure what to do. I'd ask Immewnity, to be honest. I think he would be a much greater help than I am on this subject. MaverickNate 13:58, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
Oh, okay. --♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 14:34, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Mew and Lugia art

I only downloaded them w/ some of the older art w/c came from Generation 1 to 2 like the one w/ Gold outside of the Ruins of Alph I uploaded here before. Some of them have that 'GAMEFREAK WEBPAGE'. The one who uploaded them probably thought they were official, so i thought they were all official too. So I reallly don't know where they came from. - Renzo493

Thanks for the info. MaverickNate 15:14, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

File:Zoroark.png

I have a better resolution of the image from the same source that I uploaded the new version of Zorua.png. Can you unprotect it until I get it uploaded?--immewnitythemew 16:38, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Forme sprites

I was thinking of creating a new category for "Sprites (or Images) of Pokémon with alternate forms" to better keep track of and assure the proper naming of those images but I thought it best to run it by you first. I can handle the template and start up the categorization later if it's a good idea.--MisterE13 21:50, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

I've made Formesprite to accomplish this goal. Just delete it if you don't like the idea.--MisterE13 23:42, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
It's quite extravagantly unnecessary. We are already categorizing by game and species. That's enough. MaverickNate 22:23, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
OK I just found the different formats we used between seperate kinds of sprites noteworthy. Also can we move the Overcast Cherrim sprites to 421.png and Sunshine to 421S.png?--MisterE13 02:35, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
I could tag them if you wanted, save you some trouble.--MisterE13 18:13, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
What do we have them at now? Tag them, and I'll look at them later. MaverickNate 21:24, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
We have them backwards, as though Sunshine were the default and Overcast the special form.--MisterE13 23:16, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
I've tagged File:421.png and File:421b.png to show the point. I could do the others as well if you'd like.--MisterE13 23:36, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Are we gonna get on this?--MisterE13 21:20, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Help

Is there anything I can do to somehow help out BP as admin of Archives? ht14 03:04, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

True, I mean moving stuff. Or something... it's so laggy still at BP, so I want to know if there's any help you need. ht14 15:39, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

The header error!

Hey nate, I uploaded the header image of DP173 yesterday. The problem is that it isn't showing the image anywhere (neither on DP173 article nor on any userspage. At first, I thought server may take some time to load it but it's been a day and still the image isn't appearing on the article. I tried to re-upload the image but nothing happened. Well, I faced this problem couple of times in the past as well. So, what to do now? Thank you. ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 13:36, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi Adyniz. That's likely due to the new servers installed not being synced properly yet. That's also the reason for the loss of session data over on the BP end. This will take some time to fix, so all we can do is wait. —darklordtrom 06:18, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 10:38, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

Meet me on AIM at some point in the near future. You bring the sandwiches and I'll bring the hard liquor. —darklordtrom 08:12, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

umm...

What's your reason? The picture was poorly cropped from a screenshot from Amazon, and also originally was a JPEG.--immewnitythemew 01:19, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Here's the original. Actually, that gets me thinking...--immewnitythemew 01:27, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Scratch that thing about the category. Might it be better just to have one "overlord" top-level category titled "Category:High-resolution images"? It'd lessen the categories I have listed to be made from 30-some to a negative number.--immewnitythemew 00:06, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
Hm? Might this be better than making a whole bunch of categories?--immewnitythemew 14:00, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

deleted images

Why were the images of both zoroark and zorua front and backsprites deleted? Please tell me if i did something wrong so i can correct it.

We aren't ready for stuff like that. We need to get them ripped from the games, or have one of the administrators do it. MaverickNate 18:57, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Ok well why not just the front sprites then? the current Zorua sprite looks poorly ripped...

granbull sprite

why was this deleted i worked hard getting that granbull sprite and u said u needed a newer one with better quality

Deletion

No, we (as in Psy and I) can't Nate. We have very limited powers. :) JelloTalk 22:41, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

That's disappointing. MaverickNate 02:01, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

...and I though I was doing good waiting half an hour for the image to scan. It's okay, though.--immewnitythemew 21:42, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Mister Nate~

Can you get on AIM like soon, please? Me and Jellybean have to talk to you about something very important at your earliest convenience...D8 --Psyライダー 17:46, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Nope. My keyboard is broken and it takes me many many minutes to write even the simplest of messages. MaverickNate 21:18, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Feel free then just to give me a Y or N answer: Would just one category for High-resolution images be better than categories for High-resolution Sugimori artwork, TCG artwork, anime artwork, etc.?--immewnitythemew 20:45, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
I guess one would be better. Go ahead. MaverickNate 14:15, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Sprite summary templates

I noticed that some categories of sprites had no summary templates (or that they were lacking in some way) and I thought a few up here care to take a look?--MisterE13 21:44, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I'll bring it up with the council on if we should use them or not. MaverickNate 21:16, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Particularly the footprint one since headers where included in the original template (which I learned was a bad thing the hard way when I modified the old Trozei template). Correct me if I'm wrong, as I don't know everything going on behind the scenes here, but in my opinion, almost everything we keep at standardized filenames should have a summary template.--MisterE13 23:19, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Everything's good except we would like to wait on the backsprite thing for now. Go ahead and add your summary templates, if you could. MaverickNate 01:12, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Sure thing, I expected the backsprites would be a work in progress. I'll come to you if I have any more ideas then? BTW, I brought up an idea on your BP userpage too.--MisterE13 01:36, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Is there any point to Template:I-Fairuse-sprite-game-alt? It seems to be the same thing as Template:I-Fairuse-sprite-game. I'd be happy to kill it off if it's useless.--MisterE13 00:27, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Go ahead. I don't see a point to it. MaverickNate 01:35, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Why did you deleted the Mitsuhiro Arita artwork?

I mean, we have a Midori Harada Artwork and a Kagemaru Himeno Artwork section, Both of these women also work in different media, so does Mitsuhiro Arita. Why was this deleted? TokoyamiTheDark 19:03, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Just because we have it doesn't mean it should be there. The Archives is a hellish mess and we only started making rules and policies for getting it cleaned up. I'm just speaking on behalf of the council, those categories probably won't stay. It's not like we are deleting the images, just the category. MaverickNate 19:05, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Ok. Now I understand. It must be hard to delete unnessesary files. I just wanted to show an example of Mitsuhiro's artwork in a different domain than Pokemon, which was Yu-Gi-Oh!... TokoyamiTheDark 19:12, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Though I understand why you added that image, I don't know if the others will want to keep it. I mean, we are a Pokémon wiki. MaverickNate 19:13, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Site notice

When you have time, do you think you could edit the site notice to reflect the new file size limits that are in place now? (Just so people don't go uploading over that limit from now on). Thanks. JelloTalk 19:28, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

...I think I'll die. I've just spent I don't know how long getting high-res art, and now... no more. Well, I guess that's what I made PidgiWiki for.--immewnitythemew 20:23, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Resolution rule

The area of 1080 by 1080 is 1,166,400. Can I upload an image that has the same, or less, area amount, even if one dimension is over 1080? It would take less time to load than a 1080x1080 image, theoretically.--immewnitythemew 17:58, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Rules are rules. Of course not. If you are going to complain to other users about uploading an image over 1080 by 4 pixels, then you have no room to make compromises. MaverickNate 21:02, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
I wasn't complaining, just saying. Jeesh.--immewnitythemew 21:30, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Updating certain Pokemon images?

Is there a guideline for which ones I can and can't update? :o I'm assuming, for example, Ash's on-hand party needs permission but his Pokemon in storage can be updated whenever?--Cubic Question 04:03, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

If I recall correctly, for anime head images (images for the episodes itself) permission is required if you're uploading over an administrator. For anything else, if you get reverted by an admin, it would be best to leave it. JelloTalk 05:29, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

EX Delta

Say it was Dragonair δ... I'd leave it as DragonairEXDeltaSpecies<number>... right? ht14 22:22, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Would ☆ be considered the equivalent of δ or LEGEND? ht14 01:39, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Delta. MaverickNate 01:41, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Sorry

I was trying to get a screenshot for a move that was shown in gameplay video on Oha Suta yesterday. I won't upload it again. --Phantomjunkie 18:52, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

It's fine, but we don't really need it right now. We'd rather have it uploaded when a much better quality screenshot comes out. Since none of the moves or abilities are allowed to be created until the game release, we have all that time to prepare for shots. MaverickNate 18:54, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

More summary templates

Old art incorrectly named

I'm still trying to determine what art are from what games, but our old art (e.g. File:001Bulbasaur RG.png) has some issues. For example, the Bulbasaur is in fact not from Red and Green. Scroll down to the bottom of this page. It's not the same. It seems that Ken Sugimori drew new art for RB or something.

Or, is that even Sugimori art at all? Close up, it doesn't look Sugimori. However, that may just have been his old style.

Which ever way it is, there's something wrong with the categorization and/or naming. Do you know any more about this?--immewnitythemew 20:06, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Hey

Nate, can you do me a quick favour and change the image on BN for Plasma Grunts, I should have realized it before moving it D: JelloTalk 18:43, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Just wondering

...how much I'm supposed to put in image descriptions when I'm uploading them from my columns. The upload page says uploads require "detailed information in the summary, including source information", but I notice you edited the source information out of my last upload. Am I doing something wrong? George Hutcheon 15:40, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

You aren't doing anything wrong; I just find the summary template is detailed enough for OoS use images. MaverickNate 16:34, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

TCG scans

I only have the top half of KGL; (how) should I upload it?--immewnitythemew 22:10, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Don't do it. I'm sure someone will come along with both scans eventually, such as Kogoro. She typically gets a box. MaverickNate 23:04, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Why are your scans so dark? and why is Raichu so small? MaverickNate 23:06, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

New Pokémon images

Apparently I'm supposed to ask first. Can I upload these: [1] [2]? I will note the original source. --SnorlaxMonster 13:44, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Small TCG images

Is there a list/category of TCG images smaller then 300px? If not, there should. Blake Talk·Edits 02:18, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Category:Images from the official card database. <---That pretty much covers it. There are also a couple in the bad image category too that need replaced, even if they aren't small. MaverickNate 02:40, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Sugimori art (CMYK)

Can you help me explain why the colors aren't wrong on the CMYK images? TTE and Jello aren't able to get it; then again, I'm horrible at explanations.--immewnitythemew 00:03, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Explain to me why you think they are right, because I am not seeing it. It seems to me that the RGB color scheme is the only one that should be used, and yes, until a way is discovered to convert them correctly, they should be the ones used. I agree with Jello, and TTE, and from the looks of who reverted the images, Trom, and Psy as well. MaverickNate 00:25, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
And based on the Lucario example, Blake. The list goes on with those that disagree with you. I think it would be best and wise to stop. MaverickNate 00:39, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Resolution

What is the limit on anime artwork? I know you reinstated the rules on the main page, but it says nothing in terms of anime artwork. I got some pics of Brock and Ash that are over 1080 x 1080 (and no, they were not simply stretched to over 1080 x 1080). - Vhayes1992 00:00, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

We have yet to work out all the limit caps for each type of image yet, however, I can say that artwork is one of the ones that should not be ridiculously large. Just keep the length and the width under 1280. MaverickNate 01:06, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

OK

Thank you, Maverick. I thought of categorizing but couldn't find out how. I'll also include my sources in the summary from now on. If I do any other mistake, please contact me. --Duke R 21:43, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

If you're putting the category while uploading, put it in the summary section. If you're just editing a file to add a category, put it in the bottom. ht14 22:01, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

New Pokémon images

I still have to ask you before doing this. Can I go around cutting out the art from these new leaked Coro Coro scans and upload it. It would be useful for putting on their own pages (and my one). When I do, I'll just be cropping out that section of the image, not removing the background. Someone else can do that; I just want to break up the scans into the individual Pokémon. Consequently, they will all be flagged with transparency needed. --SnorlaxMonster 06:58, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

That's perfectly fine. Just crop out the art, no need for any tags either. We'll get official (clean) art soon enough, so there doesn't need to be a wasted effort. Jellotalk 07:47, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
OK then. I just extracted them all and will now upload them. I used the suggested romanizations here for the names. --SnorlaxMonster 08:38, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Reply to : ==We have things called standards==

Hi!

I have read your message. I'm trying to do my best, but I just don't understand what is a 'standard'. I do format card image pages but I don't understand the 'summary is the same as article's name', Is this a new rule? Note I felt ill not long ago, so I had to leave my computer after uploading the 9 new BW cards. Yeah, it is true that image uploading was banned to everyone for a few weeks, but if I try to put 'Jouney Partners' on the tags, it is on the links at the bottom of the page, but it is red and says 'Page does not exist'. Is it normal? Because of that, I did not tagged the cards with 'Journey Partners' because the page was unexistant (I clicked it and they aked me to create a page with this name...) But thanks for telling me about the Romanizations, I was unaware of that ;)TokoyamiTheDark 23:03, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

User rights

Hey Nate, need to ask something regarding this. It says that we (Jr. Admins) can delete/undelete revisions but I think we can only unhide/hide the revisions but can't delete them until and unless we've powers over Jr. Admins in the hierarchy. Am I right? ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 18:17, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

I noticed you had the Japanese image of this card up on the card page. I have the English version of the same card, but I'm not sure if and how I should submit it. Do you mind giving me a bit of help? Sorry for the inconveniance.

Don't worry. No inconvenience taken. I will gladly make time for people who wish to improve the TCG section. What you need to do is upload the image at "File:UnownEXUnseenForcesB.jpg" Then, place the following text in the Summary box:

Summary
Unown (EX Unseen Forces B)

Licensing:
i-Fairuse-tcg

That will keep the image organized the proper way. Then, you can change the image on the wiki and everything will be finished. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask me. MaverickNate 14:33, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Energy TCG

I have a question about the energy cards; What is the proper way of naming them on here? Pattyman 16:12, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Depends on the print. Mostly, the same way the normal cards are. Energies have typically been avoided due to how involved they would have to be in order to update/fix their pages. If you are unfamiliar with what to do with moving Energy cards, I recommend avoiding it. MaverickNate 18:14, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

I think I did something wrong...

I think I messed it up somehow can you help me Truthseeker4449 23:45, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Ok, new question. How do I catorgyise images? Truthseeker4449 16:53, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
You put onto the page under the licensing tag. Typically, just look at an image of something similar to find the appropriate categories you'll need for the one you are trying to categorize. MaverickNate 18:00, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Stadium Moves

I've come to realise that some moves in Stadium have similar animations like Pin Missile and Poison Sting, Wrap and Bind, to name a few. Should I upload both version of the move anyway, despite their similar animation, or just upload one and use that as the main animation for a certain group of moves (as in Upload an image of Wrap and count that as Bind's animation as well, so we don't need to upload Bind's animation)?--Force Fire 03:58, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Tagging images for deletion

Hey Nate, I'm not entirely sure who to ask, so I'll ask you. I'm happy to go through some of the categories and tag unused images for deletion. I have a couple pf questions before I go doing that, though:

 1. Are personal images still allowed on the archives, and
 2. If an image is only used on someone's userpage and is not tagged as a personal image, does it get tagged for deletion?

Thanks. たかはり 06:38, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Personal images are no longer allowed on the Archives. As for the images only used on Userpages, it's mostly up to the person's discretion as to whether they are personal images or not. If the image could possibly have a use in the mainspace, such as an anime screenshot, then it should not be tagged for deletion as a personal image. If it is a custom sprite, then yes, it should be tagged for deletion. MaverickNate 20:14, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Kyurem EX ND 96

Hi Maverick Nate,

Okay to replace the Kyurem EX ND 96 with the english photo? - unsigned comment from Bluefinancier (talkcontribs)

I would much prefer if it was an actual scan done by one of our contributors. If you don't own the card, please don't take scans from online. I'm buying two cases of the set. Revert

Good evening! Could I know why did you revert my edits ?----DJWolfy 20:42, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

You removed some categories, yeah? Those categories are the Japanese expansions from which the cards originate. The plan for TCG is to have an expansion category for every expansion, English and Japanese. However, the way I do categories is the reason why they weren't created. I wait for all the images to be in there. Take a look at Moomoo Milk. Your edit was changing the Japanese set expansion to two categories about the Adventures manga characters. Why would manga characters' categories have anything to do with a card? (I'm not trying to chastise you...I just want you to look a bit broader at what you are doing when you do it. It prevents a few edits that should never happen.) That's about it. MaverickNate 05:15, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
I understand, I thought it was a broken link. My mistake----DJWolfy 10:07, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Swampert card image

Taken care of. We are unsure of where they came from, so I just removed the one that did not involve changing the wiki page. MaverickNate 04:59, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Category names of the trading cards

For the category names of the trading cards that are red linked, do we have to wait for approval in order to create them? Pattyman (talk) 18:04, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

I tend to not create them until everything is in the category, which takes time sometimes. I guess they could be created. However, some are in a transition of the japanese set name being retranslated, which is mostly the reason why they haven't been created yet. MaverickNate 03:39, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Illus. Categories

So, are we keeping the categories, renaming the categories to "Illus. by x", or scrapping them entirely? --sorry i'm dead -- Relicant 14:22, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

We will be waiting until after the initial addition of X&Y happens. We have exactly two months until an entire new Generation starts, and that is no where enough time to edit the about 10 thousand files necessary for an addition that we'd only like to see. We need to be focusing on the more important things, which is the XY release. MaverickNate 02:18, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
So it's a "maybe"? --sorry i'm dead -- Relicant 00:25, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Garçon and Waitress images

Can you please delete the Garçon and Waitress VS images and then reupload the correct versions (the one with the correct skin tone) under the same file name? Revisions

Is hiding/unhiding revisions from vandal users/spamnots fall under the same category as tagging spambot pages for deletion (the latter I shouldn't do)? Pattyman (talk) 05:38, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Personally, I just wouldn't because there wasn't anything offensive with that whole spam session. That's the primary reason for hiding revisions. I'm not going to tell you not to do it (it's not really my place to), I just wouldn't personally spend my time doing it if it isn't necessary (AKA, offensive visibility; liable information like someone's home phone number/address, etc.) MaverickNate 05:50, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
It's alright, I didn't really think it was necessary to hide all the spam sessions that occurred anyway. Pattyman (talk) 06:09, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

TCG scans

Hey Nate, I was thumbing through the Category:Unsatisfactory images and noticed some of the unsatisfactory card scans are ones I have in my own collection. I would like to help out and scan them but I was wondering if you preferred png format or jpg? Thanks :) --ZestyCactus 00:45, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Hey Nate, I uplodaded a scan of File:BulbasaurExpedition94.jpg. If it doesn't meet your expectations, let me know what I can do to improve ^^' otherwise, I can do more. Thanks~ --ZestyCactus 03:45, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Yep! That's fine MaverickNate 03:55, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Sweet! I will be doing more in the near future as I have a lot of the e-Cards as well as some others that I noticed were marked as unsatisfactory. I had one more question though, I do have this card File:BeedrillSkyridge5.jpg but I noticed the current scan is the holo version and mine is the non-holo version. Is it a big deal if I overwrite it with the non-holo version (especially since that particular scan is pretty fug) or do you prefer the holo version :P thanks! --ZestyCactus 04:09, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Upload the non holo card at a file name with the number of the non holo version. MaverickNate 04:11, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Makes sense. Sounds good, thanks :D --ZestyCactus 04:18, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Item artwork category

I see you added Category:Item artwork to the Muscle Wing image I just uploaded. Looking at several of the images in Category:Pokémon Dream World items, I notice that some have that category and some don't. My first assumption would be that they don't necessarily need it since the DW category is itself categorized under Item artwork, but I don't know if all those images actually do need that category...or if there's some logic that says some need it and others don't. I don't know this answer, so I just wanted to let you know there may be more out there that may need fixing. Tiddlywinks (talk) 16:42, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Quality scans

So I'm trying to scan some of the cards from XY but I've noticed that my scanner doesn't get as high quality a scan as what others' have. Nothing major (except on some mirror holofoils where all text is incredibly blurry), just the Pokédex data under the illustration is a bit blurry. Is it cool for me to upload over the Japanese cards with mine, even though the quality isn't on par with most other English cards? Glik (talk) 20:10, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

Email me a scan that you've done so that I can see the quality. Make sure you are scanning at 600dpi. Anyway, I'm never fond of doing work just to do work again later. Scans are mostly there for artwork, and the language can wait until we have highest quality of English scans. I'd rather not have scans uploaded just to have to have scans uploaded again later. Pokémon Adventures Italian manga

Hi, I have just written a message to Ataro, since he is the Head of Manga, but I noticed now that he is on a hiatus, so I thought it would have been better to ask someone else (On Pokémon Central Wiki we are used to do this, I don't know if here it is the same, if that is not the case, I'm sorry, I won't double message the staff anymore).
I noticed that the Italian covers of the manga were yet to be uploaded, so I just did it, I wanted to ask if I have named them correctly, as well as if I have edited the file pages correctly. I used the English and French cover as a reference, I hope I didn't mess things up. If the files have no problem could you please add the link to Bulbapedia's pages since editing is currently restricted? Thanks in advice--CiaobyDany (talk) 18:49, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

Everything's great. I've added the images to the articles. I have been wanting to find pics of these for quite a while now - I haven't been able to add the Italian editions to my own collection yet. Thanks for your help! --ZestyCactus 05:31, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

Fine, if you need more Italian images ask me and I'll see what I can do. Another thing, I added all the episodes in which the eyecatches were used in the ag series, now I'm doing the same with dp, but I'm doing it on the Italian wiki since we now have the page, feel free to copy those information, I hope I'll finish DP for the end of the year.--CiaobyDany (talk) 09:51, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

Ancient Origins Scans

Just a little notification. I am getting an Ancient Origins Booster Box, so get ready to rename a whole bunch of Japanese scans to English. I still have some cards that I need to scan for Bulbapedia. Also, you missed a page: http://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:RotomBanditRing29.jpg

Oh, yeah, I saw. I managed to scan some of my own cards I received for judging up until Fairy type, and have just been working my way through updating/correcting all the Ancient origins pages. I may scan the rest of the cards I received this past weekend so that we scans sooner, but there have definitely been cards that we'll still be missing. Thanks for the help! I've just been splitting them into types for breaks. MaverickNate 03:30, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Artwork label errors

I pointed it out earlier here. All the Pokémon artwork labeled as being from Red and Green is wrong, it's either from the TCG or from Red and Blue (Japanese Blue?). The Nintendo website proves that some of the artwork we label as being from Red and Blue is in fact from Red and Green.

Could this be fixed ASAP? SatoMew2 (talk) 00:45, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

Credit

Btw, when uploading the new images, the scanner of the cards (rockcarolina) would like to be credited with them somewhere in the description. Thanks, SirFinkleBottom (talk) 21:37, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

They've already been in touch with me about it. Thank you though! MaverickNate 22:02, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

Upload glitch?

Uploaded scan of Chikorita and the card didn't update properly? Then I went to revert the change thinking I messed up but now the correct card is shown (that I uploaded) in the history?? (btw cards come from rockcarolina again) Please help. Thanks, SirFinkleBottom (talk) 02:21, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Images need to be forced to update most of the time. That's why we leave them to be moved until the English scan is uploaded. Additionally, the scans from Rock Carolina aren't good enough for BREAKpoint. Scans need to be done by our own users (Generations was an exception because it wasn't released officially yet) with the resolution and quality requirements that each other scan receives. That Chikorita is going to have to be replaced later anyway, because it isn't good enough for our purposes and doesn't belong to us, so I would prefer if we weren't uploading their images MaverickNate 05:08, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Re:English card images

Oh, sorry. I wasn't aware of the guidelines for the TCG images. Would it be alright to use images from the official database instead?--User:UltraPikach3000

Not entirely, because their images don't meet the standards we want here, and if we take te time to replace images, we don't want to have to replace them again later. MaverickNate 21:20, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

I want to update 2 images

Hi,

I want to update to images, The Japanese SNAP Charmander and SNAP Squirtle. Please let me know where to send the images for them to be added. I have uploaded them to flir and you can use them to update the image on the article.

Protection removal?

Could the protection on File:Jessie Mimikyu.png be undone? It was set up in 2016 as a result of an argument over which version of it should be used, but I feel that this argument has long ago become invalid, what with the dozens of new episodes have aired since then. Do you think that the protection could be removed? --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 10:02, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

This file you uploaded is a candidate for deletion!

キーコン14:41, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

You thought I don't work at the Archives? Yeah, I uploaded this file due to a couple of reasons:

 • You cannot upload a file that has a different MIME type of the existing file.
 • You cannot change a file's extension by moving it.
 • JPG files store colors in a 3-byte format: RRGGBB, whereas PNG stores colors in a 4-byte format: RRGGBBAA.

Also, before you use my talk page template, see here.

Never mind, ht14 already deleted the file.

Original series artworks

Hi, what is the source of your artworks of Pokemons and characters from the original series? Do you have access to some original promotional materials/press kits in form of a vector graphic? Or it is just a reconstruction based on all merchandising of that times? --HarryArchiver (talk) 15:20, 29 Jan 2023 (UTC)

Honestly I'm not entirely sure at this point anymore, sorry. MaverickNate 08:56, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

I hope you have a copy of this guide as you won't find a decent image online. Finger (talk) 15:16, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

I do! I have all of them up until about Cosmic Eclipse, but they're back at my house in the US, so I don't know when I'll be able to scan them in. MaverickNate 09:31, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

CopycatEXTeamRocketReturns83.jpg

Should this file have all the extra Categories? Finger (talk) 10:42, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

If we're going to have both this image and the Expedition image, you're right, any appropriate categories need to be transferred over to the e-reader card. Historically, we only provide one image per artwork, so the extra categories, like Category:Rocket Gang Strikes Back, Category:EX Dragon Frontiers, and Category:Shockwave! Tyranitar ex Constructed Standard Deck should still be listed in order to maintain representations of those cards within those categories. MaverickNate 11:02, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
That being said, only one of each image should be included in the categories, so File:CopycatExpedition138.jpg shouldn't be including the Dragon Frontiers and the Tyranitar ex Deck categories, since they are already on File:CopycatEXTeamRocketReturns83.jpg (which is the example image that has the matching Trainer card layout). MaverickNate 11:24, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

It's all very confusing. Finger (talk) 02:20, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

That's fair, just feel free to continue asking question and I'll help out where ever I can. MaverickNate 09:21, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

I have another question

Why is this way preferred, and where can I find a guide to help with any others? Finger (talk) 02:28, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

So, for this template, the set and illus fields are the default, and the caption section is the override. The instructions for it were written here, but that's admittedly not a very easy place to get to.
As for where you can find more, this category on BP proper has a list of all the template pages that have their instructions written out so far. But bear with the staff as we work on getting more of them written. We've been trying to prioritize making editing more accessible here lately, which hasn't always been the case. MaverickNate 09:21, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

I do a lot of editing on Wikipedia, so it shouldn't prove a steep learning curve, fingers crossed. At least now I know where your templates are hidden. Finger (talk) 13:20, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

File:0971Greavard.png

I saw this message but forgot to respond. Just know that staff are aware of everything involved here, and in order to protect member's privacy, I'm not able to elaborate on anything more. MaverickNate 07:39, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

Ahh, so that explains why I couldn't find it, lol!
Out of curiosity, I went looking for images with large dimensions and there are a lot uploaded. An example being: File:Kotobukiya Iono and Bellibolt Naoki Saito.jpg.
To answer your question about my collection: I have quite a lot of WotC cards that are in good condition.
But anyways, you've been a great help and super informative, so thank you for all the assistance you've provided me with!

English language cards are always preferred over any Japanese cards, while scanned images are preferable to digital ones, so to answer your question quickly, yes if you were to upload the scan of the card you have, it would be very much appreciated and wanted :) 4iamking 01:14, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks! Porygon-man (talk) 23:48, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

Re: Personal scans

Original message: "Hi! I noticed you upload some card scans recently to replace some of our less desired images. That's great! I do have 2 requests that I hope you can fulfill with your scans going forward.

 • The scan quality on File:EnergyStadiumNeoDestiny99.jpg and File:CharizardDragonStorm3.jpg is a bit lower than we typically desire. The bottom text on Energy Stadium in particular is a bit difficult to make out accurately. I'm not confident what settings you are currently using, but I remember when I had that problem, I increased the DPI and the images started coming out in better quality.
 • If possible, please try and get a tighter crop on your scans.

 • As for the whitespace, I will try my best, however, with the holofoil cards, sometimes the added weight of the holofoil causes a bend in the card, so that even when I straighten the image, when viewed head-on, the edges are not perfectly straight.
 • While I've got you, I have a question about File:021276 P EREBU.jpg (and other files like it). I'll just copy and paste what I put on the talk page: Hi, I have scanned the English version of this card and would like to upload it. Which way is the the way to go:
A) Simply upload over the existing image, change the licensing template, remove the "Cards from the official card database" category, and request a move
B) Upload the English scan separately, replace the image on the Bulbapedia page, and nominate this (Japanese) version for deletion

Thanks for getting back to me! Porygon-man (talk) 05:20, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

As long as you are trying your best to adhere to the advice, that's all I can really ask. I know sometimes other issues make it not reasonable, so just do what you can!
We prefer option A. We like to preserve the history of the image in a transparent way so uploading over the old and adding the new tags is the way to go. Hope this helps! MaverickNate 13:23, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

Link templates

A few days ago, there was a discusssion in the discord about people being confused about which link templates are actually avaiable on the archives as opposed to bulbapedia. I sugeested having a page similar to BP:LLT, so I've written up a draft with available templates, how to use them, and examples. Only thing is I'm unsure of how to submit it for staff review. Should I create a page in my userspace similar to on pedia, or should I just send you a text file? I hope you can review this page soon so it'll be a help to editors. Thanks! → PikaTepig999 03:37, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

To be honest, I trust this enough for you to publish it at Archives:List of link templates from the get go. I think any review that I'd do could easily just happen there. I look forward to seeing it! MaverickNate 12:53, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for your trust. I've included most of the templates from Category:Link templates, although some templates might be missing due to being uncategorized. Additionally, some templates on BP were never created on the archives, such as template:pal, template:gal, template:al, template:hi, template:rf etc. (Not that they have to be created, since their use case on the archives is pretty low compared to BP, but just letting you know.) The page is now live. Please feel free to let me know if there's anything else I can do to assist. → PikaTepig999 07:04, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

I kindly ask you to delete everything I have uploaded. I never want to deal with you again. User:Stesky

Uploading scans with non-standard Holofoils

Thanks. Porygon-man (talk) 03:34, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

Also, what about reverse holos or cards with stamped logos? Porygon-man (talk) 04:03, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
I don't think we have a policy for alternate holos at this point; we have a handful in order to show them off on the Holofoil page, but I do know the standard print is usually prioritized. If it's the only one you own, as long as the scan is good quality, it should be fine. MaverickNate 06:03, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
Thanks! Porygon-man (talk) 00:17, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

Replacing older low-quality scans with higher-quality ones?

Hi, Nate, me again. I was wondering if you would object to me uploading higher quality scans over older, lower quality ones. For example, this is our current scan of Jungle Meowth, and this is my scan: [3].

Yeah! If you want to replace things using that standard, go for it! MaverickNate 10:51, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
Will do, thanks! Porygon-man (talk) 02:30, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
