Summaries
Please do not forget to add appropriate summaries, rights templates, and categories to the images you upload. Thanks. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 15:14, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
Hello sir, i am using the same ones as the pictures already there. so i thought that would be good, no? Could u be more specific what is wrong then please?- unsigned comment from AppelX (talk • contribs)
- What Finnish was referring to is when uploading new images to avoid needing to do double work, you should also include a summary (a simple 1 liner detailing what the image is, this can be generic), and attributing a proper license to the image. this can either be done by selecting a licence from the dropdown menu when uploading an image or adding it to the summary screen for example with
{{i-Fairuse-scan}}
added to the summary box. Categories can also be added with[[Category:category name]]
. "Collectable cards" and the name of the pokémon on the card being relevant for the images you're uploading. you can see my edit here, this is the information that should be added when uploading new images. (though the summary heading doesn't need to be copied in when using the box when uploading images, as it will be added automatically.) Hope this helps and please reach out if anything is unclear :) 4iamking 13:44, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for the input, is there a way to upload like that in bulk?- unsigned comment from AppelX (talk • contribs)
- I would just prepare the text in advance and then copy paste it in with every upload, then you only have to change like 2 variable between uploads. You can just copy the code below and then you only have to change the card number and the depicted pokémon with every upload.
Card 999 from {{bp|Pokémon Advanced Challenge Trading Cards}}. [[Category:Collectible cards]] [[Category:Bulbasaur]] == Licensing == {{i-Fairuse-scan}}
- Also on talk pages, its best practice to always sign your comments, this can be done with 4 tildes (~~~~), that lets other people know who placed the comment and when. 4iamking 13:57, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
your email
Heya, Just getting back to your email. To answer your questions: when adding categories, they need to be encased in square brackets as shown in my example above to properly be added, so this is what I did with most of your uploads, and the fair use sourcing template needs to be on a separate line break from the licensing section headline. Although it is displayed displayed as one line on this talk page, if you copy the source code between the <nowiki>
tags from my example earlier there shouldn't be any issue.
As for reusing images, id refer you to Bulbapedia's Fair use and copyright statements. In short Bulbapedia doesn't claim ownership of any user uploaded images. Any images you upload are your responsibility and you can reuse as you wish, any other images may be used elsewhere with proper attribution in accordance with Fair use doctrine.
Hope this helps :) 4iamking 12:25, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
Hello my friend,
The information i added is completely copy past from your example up top... So i do not understand what went wrong there...
Is there an easy was to share those images that are from a specific set? AppelX (talk) 12:32, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
- This is the whole purpose of categorisation, we add them so you can go to Category:Collectible cards for example and find all relevant images. given how many there are its probably not a bad idea to make a few new sub categories specifically for Topps cards, but these categories would have to be retroactively added to the already uploaded images. 4iamking 12:41, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
Those categorisation is precisely what i mean. How would it be possible for me to add a Pokemon TOPPS categorisation and preferably also subcategorisations for the sets? Then those would be sharable with external providers to upload to their card database =) AppelX (talk) 13:21, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
- You can just make them yourself, just when making new subcategories be sure to add the main category to the page. you can see my example here... then when want to add the category to the image, you need to add
[[Category:Johto League Champions Trading Cards]]
to the image page. you can also use numbers like[[Category:Johto League Champions Trading Cards|001]]
with the appropriate card number and this will order the images in set order.
- Also I just realised when I was fixing all your missing category links that I mislabeled all the Johto cards that you uploaded... allow me to fix that. 4iamking 13:43, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
Hello sir, I am trying to fix the added information and i managed to add Categories to pictures, only the Subcategory doesn't work. Can you check why? https://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:TOPPS_Advanced_D2.jpg Also it seems if i make a mistake, i am unable to re-upload or delete anything, could that be true? Are you available on the Bulba discord? Conversations here are quite strange... AppelX (talk) 08:08, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
- You can edit any image page on archives like you would a wiki page on Bulbapedia itself. It didn't work because categories need to be encased in square brackets ([[]]) and not the squiggly brackets ({{}}). Furthermore if you're making a new category for a new set, you have to make the category page as well. Also keep in mind the licensing template also needs a line break from the
== Licensing ==
Subpage heading. There is a Archives and Images chat in the discord as well you can use if you prefer and im sure you will find assistance in should you need it :) 4iamking 09:39, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
Deleting and moving
If something should be deleted, please dont just create a new category, instead attach {{delete|reason}}
to the page, with where I wrote reason being the reason for deletion. This will put it in Category:Candidates for deletion and flag it for Bulbapedia staff to delete. similarly if a category or image needs moving, please attach {{move|destination}}
with desired page name being added where I wrote "destination". this again will put it in Category:Candidates for moving and again flag it for Bulbapedia Staff who will decide if the move is warranted or not. Doing this another way just creates more work for staff and delays the process because we have to then track down all the unnecessary pages you create in the process and deal with them. Also as for naming categories, its important that we are consistent with naming them.. we can either go with "Pokémon Advanced cards" or "Advanced cards" for example but if we pick 1, we shouldn't have "Pokémon Advanced cards" next to "Advanced Challenge cards". 4iamking 10:22, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
- and also for consistancy, "Topps" should likely be spelled without capitals, The company doesn't go by "TOPPS" 4iamking 10:30, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
When i am adding new stuff i always run into issues and new things, but it takes some time to fix those. First i try to add all stuff i was working on and after i can look up the solutions =) but u already told me the solutions now, so i just fixed them fixed =) AppelX (talk) 11:18, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
TCG scans
I replaced the images you added with other examples on the Pokemon card page. For the TCG, all of our images need to be personal scans, images from official sources, or scans provided to us from partnered websites. I hope you can understand. Thanks MaverickNate 23:27, 28 August 2024 (UTC) Thx my friend, i did not know that and couldn't find many example on the bulba sites i visited, so decided to add some. You added some nice onces instead =)
Advanced Action Cards
Hi, I've noticed you uploaded some Advanced Action Cards images (1) (2) (3) for the Pokémon card page. Please could you add a link to the source of the images on those file pages. It seems they have come from the internet, but it is important to add a source for such images for future reference and verification. Thanks --Thespeon196 (talk) 16:24, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hello sir,
- I received those from 3 friends of discord server i am on. They sent me those photos after asking photos for the bulbapedia. They thought these 3 were the most desirable. Is that a problem? - unsigned comment from AppelX (talk • contribs)
- If it's from a private collection and not from the internet, I don't suppose there's a way of referencing that other than saying something like "From a private collection - used with permission". However, it would be much more preferable if it was from your private collection, as a Bulbapedia user (or even if your friends uploaded their own images here directly). Going forward though, if any non-TCG card images–or any image for that matter–are taken from the net, do always include a link to the page that it comes from as a source. --Thespeon196 (talk) 23:51, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
