:If we're going to go that far, I would rather split the template by Generation (for the core series) and series (for the sidegames/spin-offs). ::I was hoping to keep the conversation over at the template talk page. Anyways, I have noticed we are missing categories for the core series in general. I have made the mistake that [[:Category:Blue (game)]] refers to {{bp|Blue (game)|the character}}, not the Game Boy game. I would take it all the way and categorize by a game-by-game basis, like on {{bp|smw:Category:Game images|MarioWiki}}. However, I do like the subcategories here on {{SITENAME}} because MarioWiki clumps sprites, 3D renders, art, screenshots, etc. into one category. What you are suggesting is grouping a game like FireRed and LeafGreen with Ruby and Sapphire. Same core engine, but entirely different games. Grouping a game like Emerald with Ruby and Sapphire is a bit strange too because it is more refined and has a tweaked storyline exclusive to it. {{bp|Generation III}} --[[User:Wildgoosespeeder|Wildgoosespeeder]] ([[User talk:Wildgoosespeeder|talk]]) 00:12, 13 April 2022 (UTC)

:::Looking at how the template is coded, I see why you want to categorize by generation. Exceptions do apply, like with Stadium, Colosseum, XD, and Battle Revolution for example. I was thinking of a simple code tweak to be like <code><nowiki>|xd={{bp|Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness|XD}}[[Category:Pokémon XD moves]]|</nowiki></code>, but for each side game (MediaWiki switch). --[[User:Wildgoosespeeder|Wildgoosespeeder]] ([[User talk:Wildgoosespeeder|talk]]) 02:08, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
