Remove the :Template:Transparency needed template when you make it transparent. Also, make sure that the size is correct (56 x 56). Thanks. : I am not able to remove the template. There is no option for me to change it, nor can I edit the source. I also do not change the size of the animation. If I were to let's say, resize the gif, the loss in quality would be unacceptable. So if the file I download is 40x40, I upload it the same size. Same with the correct size of 56x56. Thank you. == Transparent GIF help ==
So hey, I decide to finally check in with the Archives and what do you know! There's a message that has been sitting there for over ten days! Ahaha, sorry for the wait. I also decided to go ahead and create a new section here, to make it more noticable.
Okay, enough rambling. The problem with Crystal sprites such as the Meowth sprite is that each frame, excluding the Background, only contains a portion of the whole sprite, to reduce file size I guess. You'll see that in each "layer attributes" it'll say "combine", which works fine when there's a white background to mask the lower layers but leaves afterimages when the background is transparent. So all we do now is change the "combine" to "replace", and use the full sprite for each frame instead of just a portion. Speaking of which, all the frames for every sprite can be found here under the files that say "Pokémon #00-000". This is the reason why I'm leaving this type of sprite for last: one must copy and paste each sprite (flipping them first, since they're facing the wrong direction) over its frame in GIMP, position it correctly, and remove the background there.
Also, these files' colors are indexed, so any color not matching the four colors already making up the sprite will be converted to the color that most closely matches it. I say this because the background for the frames at the above link is this teal color that usually gets converted to the main color of the sprite; so like, a frame of Ratatta would have a purple background, and then you'd end up selecting the pixels of the sprite instead of the background pixels... it's just a mess. So I always copy-and-paste the individual row of sprites into a new image and remove the teal background before pasting into GIMP (even when the background is transparent it gets pasted in as white, though, so I have to remove it again >_<).
But before any of THAT, the frames need resizing. This is the answer to your other question, then, about resizing the files. If the image is already 56x56, you just right-click each frame and select "Layer to Image Size"; otherwise, if you were pasting a full sprite into a frame that originally only contained, say, Meowth's eye, you would only be able to see a little square of pixels the size of the eye instead of the whole image. If the image is not 56x56, just go to Image=>Canvas Size=>and change the size there. And on the "Resize layers" scrolldown, select "All layers" so you won't have to go and manually right-click each frame to resize it.
Whew, what a wall of text! Remember to add "replace" to each "layer attributes" instead of "combine", and then that should be it. I hope this helps, and feel free to ask for clarification or tips if you need any! --<font face="garamond"><font color="CC0000">Chaud</font><font color="0099FF">Co</font><font color="996699">~</font></font> 00:45, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
