Welcome to Bulbagarden Archives, Hmdwgf. Please read the checklist when you upload media files, and be sure to tag and categorize all images. Maverick Nate 03:57, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Anime screenshots

If possible, could you please upload anime screenshots as .pngs, not .jpgs? Chocolate 18:00, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Why do i need to do that? And how do I convert a .jpg file to a .png file? Hmdwgf 18:07, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
1. You need to do it because TTEchidna, the highest authority on Bulbapedia said that anime screenshots need to .pngs.
2. You're not supposed to convert them, you're supposed to take them as .pngs. Chocolate 02:56, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Also, on talk pages, start new sections at the bottom, not the top. Chocolate 03:05, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
How come you're still uploading .jpgs? Chocolate 23:16, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
They do need to be pngs with lowercase extensions. It would be prefered if you wouldn't upload jpgs at all. Also, try to give the images more concise and correct names. "Capture12" says nothing about what the image is. Maverick Nate 20:30, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Who cares? What person who visits this website is going to look at the website and look at my images and say "well i see the picture, but i still have no idea what it is" after they read the text at the bottom of the image in smaller size on a page on this website? I am not concise about my image names because I don't want anyone to find them and use them for other purposes but me. I may seem like a control freak, but that's who I am. Hmdwgf "01:37, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Because it is policy to name them something that actually has to do with the image. Those long image names are pointless an not helpful to anyone. And also, if you plan to keep them all to yourself and not let them be used anywhere, and only by yourself, they all count as personal images and you can only keep two. Now, which is it? are you going to start following the policy about naming images correctly, or are you wanting to get blocked? Maverick Nate 00:23, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Just because it was a long time ago, doesn't mean you get to forget. Maverick Nate 03:23, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Nate's away atm

I've searched the Archives, including deleted revisions, and I can't find "your" image, and I've deleted the new duplicate you uploaded. In future, if you have a problem, don't blank the page. That's just stupid. — THE TROM — 10:37, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Why? He copied my image, deleted it and then put his own rip-off of my image on the website. You should have deleted his image, not mine. --Hmdwgf 21:22, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, but that's the thing. I looked through your deleted contributions, and I didn't see it there. In any case, it doesn't matter who uploaded it, as Bulbapedia and the Archives are community projects. I suspect that this was one of the cases where you gave it a silly filename and Nate reuploaded with something more appropriate. — THE TROM — 22:10, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
After reading your post to Nate, I've given you a cool-down block. That was not acceptable at all. See you in five days, with a clear head. I'm not enforcing a block on the 'pedia just yet but if you bring this over there, I will. Let's keep things civil, alright? — THE TROM — 22:13, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Categories = Important

Please categorise all images you upload, as you upload them. Thanks. —darklordtrom 01:36, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, my mistake. --Hmdwgf 20:03, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Screenshot from where?

Screenshot from which movie?darklordtrom 09:53, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Any better? --Hmdwgf 00:50, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Sources

You must put a source on every image you upload. Taking images from websites without giving credit is considered stealing, and we don't want to get Bulbagarden in trouble. Please put a link back to the site you got it from on each image you upload. Thank you. Maverick Nate 01:25, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

OK. I'll do that. Now leave me alone. --Hmdwgf 18:42, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Play nice.Try reading CoC because Maverick Nate is just giving you some advice. --Coolピカチュウ! 23:04, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
I know that, I didn't ask for his advice. I know what he was talking about, he didn't need to tell me. I didn't insult him or anything like that. I just told him to leave me alone. --Hmdwgf 06:10, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
You obviously didn't know, or you already would have been doing it. Maverick Nate 12:28, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
I did know. I only responded like that so you would get off my back permanently. Because you didn't respond to my rather abusive comments much eariler, I thought you were decent enough to respect my wish that you were to leave me alone. I did not shout at you and I did not insult you, and I did not curse at you. I just told you to leave me alone. And if there is a problem with what I am doing, please ignore it and let another administrator tell me what I am doing wrong. I will talk to any administrator of a certain problem except specifically you. You are the last administrator I want to speak to, even if you are a decent person. And now that I have said what I need to say, lets just drop this now pointless and stupid argument already, shall we? I do not like confrontation in any form, synthetic or real. And if you want an apology for what I wrote earlier, then fine. I'm sorry for writing abusive language on your page. --Hmdwgf 06:51, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Duplicates

Please do not re-upload images under a different name, as it makes it confusing. -MasterKenobi 23:28, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Unless, of course, it's a higher quality version of a crappy old jpg. o_0 —darklordtrom 23:49, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
Yes, just a bit of confusion on my part. I just saw a little bit ago that it was a png. -MasterKenobi 23:54, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Just checking

you are doing a great job with making names descriptive, and given them good summaries. Just, remember the categories and you'll be golden. ;) MaverickNate 02:26, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I have a real problem with the categorizing thing, I might need your help with that. --Hmdwgf 06:30, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Okay, just tell me what you need to know, and I'll help you the categorizing down. As for the vertical pipe, it's on my keyboard, near the delete key. I have to press shift to get to it, because the \ is the normal key. I don't know where it would be on your's but I'm pretty sure it would be on there. MaverickNate 12:04, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
That's pretty much it, I think I've got it down now. Thanks! --Hmdwgf 22:43, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
In addition, common link templates in the 'pedia like p and an should also be used here. Thanks, Kevzo8 09:58, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Candidates for deletion

Use the delete tag instead of replacing the summary when slating an file for removal. Those files you marked as useless could have been left hanging there if no one read the recent changes list. Also, have you got an approval to change the scenes in the head pic of the episodes? If not, you should take the screenshot from the same scene the lower-resolution one was from. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 12:55, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I can do that, but occasionally, a low-res screenshot sometimes isn't descriptive enough of the episode. Thanks for showing me the delete tag. --Hmdwgf 13:21, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
He has permission to change the screenshots when uploading a png in place of a jpg. MaverickNate 18:59, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Okay, good to know. I just asked because of I remember there has been these edit wars of changing head pics before (though I think those have been about the newest episodes, but still). UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 19:29, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Just to clarify, input delete not delete. Also, if possible, please state your reason by inputting reason. Thanks, Kevzo8 12:24, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I was a little confused there. --Hmdwgf 12:26, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Please be specific in regards to reasoning. It's specific, yes, but it may take me or another admin a while to find the copied file. Can you make it so it's like copy of File:001.png, or something of that sort? That'd be appreciated. ht14 21:33, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you're talking about. --Hmdwgf 23:46, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
You know how you use the template delete? For the summary, where you write out the reasoning. Write that it's a duplicate of a specific file, not just a general file. For instance, you could say "copy of <insert file here>", but it's generally more confusing and tedious if you just wrote "duplicate of a file". ht14 23:55, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
That's why the admins are supposed to look at edit summaries and the such: just be glad that hmdwgf is finding duplicates. That's extremely helpful on it's own. Just delink and delete MaverickNate 00:00, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
You don't get what I'm trying to say though. Some files are duplicates of other files that don't have the same name. That's why it's hard to find at times. Honest though, I appreciate your help. ht14 00:04, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Ah. Now I get it, thanks for explaining. --Hmdwgf 07:07, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Caaaaaaategories.

'Nuff said. Please don't forget them. —darklordtrom 07:10, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

*poke* —darklordtrom 18:58, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
*cough* —darklordtrom 08:03, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
OK, what did I miss this time... --Hmdwgf 08:16, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
I forget what the poke was for, but I coughed at Category:Ash Ketchum, Category:Ash's Pikachu and Category:Spearow. C'mon, dude, I know you can do this. Basically (seeing as you work in anime) just put a category on for every character you see in the picture, or for every Pokémon you see. Ash's Pikachu is the only caught Pokémon with a special category, btw. Everything else goes in the generic one. —darklordtrom 09:21, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Righto. --Hmdwgf 13:36, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Great work with all these anime pics :) Upload the "better" version before you tag for deletion though. —darklordtrom 21:50, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
I just did. It's not exactly the same image, but it's still pretty good.

Image:Palkia Spacial Rend Release.png --Hmdwgf 21:52, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Cheers. In case you didn't know, you can link directly to a file by putting a colon after the first two square brackets. —darklordtrom 21:55, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
I didn't know that. Really, thanks for telling me. --Hmdwgf 21:57, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Link templates

You can't use link templates of Bulbapedia here. If you type an, you're making a link to a Bulbapedia article called "an", displaying the text "something". Some of the link templates exist in Archives, though, like the an template. Just leave out the bp part (type for example Latias. If a link template does not exist, you can always write Article name (thereisnolinktemplateforthiskindofname).

The list of link templates in Archives can be found here. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 19:16, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Tagging for deletion

One thing. Could you locate a better version before you tag for deletion? If it's being used then I'd rather have the bad image (which doesn't look terrible when scaled down) than no image. —darklordtrom 04:38, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I can see your point. --Hmdwgf 05:15, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
Also, it would help if you mentioned the name of the new image in the reason. I currently need to search all around for the new version, since sometimes the old images are still used on BP and need replacing. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 06:09, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
The image name isn't much different. They were recently uploaded images, both the soon-to-be deleted images and the new images I uploaded. They should be really easy to find, they are all listed in the "new images" section. --Hmdwgf 06:17, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I can usually find them quite easily. It would only be even easier if I knew the exact filename immediately :p
One more thing I see you still have to concentrate on: you should add the images you upload to the relevant categories. There is, for example, a category for each Pokémon species, so for example an image with the three Kanto starters should have

on its description page (preferably each one listed on its own line). You can add the categories when you're adding the summary for the image, or when editing the description page afterwards. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 09:25, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
OK, thanks for the useful infomation. --Hmdwgf 23:13, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Please upload all your images in .png format.--Force Fire 06:13, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

What are you talking about? You're telling me to upload pics in .png format? I haven't uploaded any pics in any format other than .png. --Hmdwgf 06:23, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
That's true, FF. You must have mistaken Hmdwgf's upload from buzzy's. Kevzo8 07:21, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I think he was talking about these 2 pics. PsychicRider uploaded those ones. Or perhaps he was mistaken for Maverick Nate, who also uploaded a number of .jpgs recently. It's possible... --Hmdwgf 08:06, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Derp. sorry 'bout that, meant to give that to PsychicRider as you said :p. As for Mav's jpg stash, they're TCG uploads they can be jpg.--Force Fire 14:37, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

sorry for that... i just replaced the uploaded a newer version of and it is on .jpg format and of course i can't replace it with .png if doing so i must edit right through the bulbapedia..ok tnx for the reminder, just explaining my side..

Request

I know you thought that image of Oak at age ten was useless, but could you possibly get a png of him at that age from that movie? I think it would be good to have on the page, since the only representation of young oak is that horrible anime art. MaverickNate 23:36, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I can. I would have done that, but I thought the anime art enough was good enough for everybody. --Hmdwgf 23:55, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
If the anime art didn't look like a cropped junky image, then it would have been enough. But sadly, it isn't that good of an image MaverickNate 23:56, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
I agree and understand, I never liked it either. I'll get a pic that is good enough. --Hmdwgf 23:58, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Can you snatch a replacement for File:Queen Rin.jpg? That one is incredibly small. MaverickNate 22:39, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
I took care of that picture on the Queen Rin page on Bulbapedia and uploaded a replacement pic. Now that that's been done, there really is no use for that .jpg pic of Rin. --Hmdwgf 09:10, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Apostrophe

Please avoid using them. Though they do not seemingly cause any errors, better be safe than sorry. Stick to the alphanumeric-only rule. Thanks, Kevzo8 12:43, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Your recent uploads... I haven't checked if the ones above is outdated or not, so as long as it's there, don't forget to read them before uploading, including the checklist. Thanks, Kevzo8 07:47, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

.......

u all sure are picky--Darknesslover5000 21:06, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

in my opinion, it's better than not having anything. I'm just trying to do some edits since everyone on the wiki complains about how I only edit the trivia sections, or only edit my userpage. I'm doing the best I can with the raw materials I have. --Darknesslover5000 23:38, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

All the good stuff to edit is already edited. And it's hard to find something to edit. To much stuff here--Darknesslover5000 09:24, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Reply of that SMALL IMAGE !!!

Hey hmdwgf, I didn't uploaded that image for a header. I uploaded it for bulbanews, because bulbanews uses small pictures for upcoming episodes and they DO use tv tokyo images. This is the reason that's why I named the image DP160 temp not DP160. --♫♪Adyniz♪♫ 13:31, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

OK. But please try to find a bigger pic next time... --Hmdwgf 20:47, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, sure. --♫♪Adyniz♪♫ 12:00, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Erhem....

Please don't forget to categorize... I don't want to give you a computer-generated message, but I'm just reminding you... Moves (anime) and the Pokémon name for the Electrode Rollout pic you uploaded. ht14 04:01, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

S**t happens. --Hmdwgf 08:33, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Misty's lure

Did you not read what was said by Ceolwulf? US release and international release is different... ht14 23:21, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

No, really, it isn't. All of the international versions of the Pokemon anime are based off the American dubbed version. Unless you can tell me an episode in which the lure came around between The Legend of Dratini and Bye Bye Psyduck. --Hmdwgf 23:24, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
You sure? ht14 23:24, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
1000% sure. No dubbing company had the rights to Pokemon to visually alter the images other than 4Kids. --Hmdwgf 23:27, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
Alright. ht14 23:28, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

-__- --Hmdwgf 15:02, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Hey

Just that I'd let you know, when you're replacing the nonstandard screenshots with the correct .png ones, you don't need the "screenshot= blah blah.png" part, unless of course you want the nonstandard screenshot tag on the article. The "screen=yes" part is enough and it'll automatically link to the correct file and get rid of that nonstandard tag. Hope that helps. --Jello 18:47, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Yes it does. Thanks. --Hmdwgf 00:44, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Great job

You've pretty much cleared that whole category of nonstandard screenshots. Sorry if I couldn't be of much help. Just wondering what sources you use so maybe I can help with the location images a bit more. --Jello 01:27, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Just two more to go... And it's okay. I'm just glad you were able to contribute those Pikachu shorts pics, those are quite elusive. --Hmdwgf 02:28, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
