Images that don't belong to any of those categories?

I'm currently cleaning up the formula pages, and those formulas aren't screenshots, sprites, pictures taken from the anime, personal images, or anything. What should I put the category as...? Ztobor 13:07, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

As opposed to the Category:Formula which previously existed and has now been deleted D: —darklordtrom 01:30, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps something about this should be said in the main article? Or is it too rare a case to keep in mind? Ztobor 02:12, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
What do you mean? ht14 02:13, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Currently, there's no entry for formulas in the tutorial on how to categorize images. Unless I'm just blind and haven't seen it yet. Ztobor 01:32, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
The tutorial is extremely old and outdated, and sadly, I just don't have the time or initiative to do it. - unsigned comment from Maverick Nate (talkcontribs)

Category wording

"Images containing large groups of characters or Pokémon should be placed in the Large group artwork category. The image should also be added to the categories of any characters and/or Pokémon particularly prominent in the group."

This says that the category is "Large Group Artwork", the images right now say that they are in the "Large group images" category. This may need to be changed to match that. G50 11:02, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Sprites size.

An exception should be made if the sprite animation makes it bigger than the size, such as Lugia's Emerald sprite or Regigigas's GenerationIV sprites... and this isn't noted. Marked +-+-+ (talk) 13:38, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

My best bet would be still sprites being the format listed. When the images are frozen for Emerald and Generation IV, they have a typical size as well. So that'd probably be the format that is referred in the MoS. ht14 15:31, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Cover pages

A lot of the cover pages related with mangas are named differently and incorrectly such as this one. How can the cover pages be named in a way that it describes the image better? Pattyman (talk) 23:49, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

The name I had in mind was, [Media name] [Company name/Region abbreviation] volume [vol. #].png. You can find some examples with the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure! covers. I'm just waiting for approval before I continue with the naming convention. Pattyman (talk) 20:55, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
Sounds legit to me. I have noticed over time that consistent volume cover file names are really handy and it makes it easier to figure out if we have missing or duplicate images. The naming system you suggested is fine, go for it. --ZestyCactus 04:33, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
Got it. Pattyman (talk) 21:20, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

Emulation screenshots

Are there any preferences, guidelines or rules on using an emulator to obtain screenshots?

Removing white outline for Sugimori artwork

This is mostly in regards to the artwork currently used for Koraidon, Miraidon, Walking Wake, and Iron Leaves, but users have removed the white outline and other users have reverted them to the press release files, which retain the outlines. I then looked at other Sugimori artwork, and some use the direct files from zukan.pokemon.jp and others use the press files with removed outlines (which for whatever reason has been left intact, perhaps aforementioned users never got around to reverting those images or aren't aware that those are technically edited artwork).

I bring this to attention because:

1. For the "stock artwork" section of the page (if it applies to Sugimori's artwork), is/should removing outlines be considered as an alteration that is allowed or not allowed?

2. If removing outlines is allowed, can somebody help with the artwork file pages for the four Pokémon mentioned above? Because on pages like this it's a bit disorienting to see a few Pokémon with white outlines in a sea and background of Pokémon without outlines. Spawnermike (talk) 04:39, 17 August 2023 (UTC)

Right now theres nothing really on paper, and there probably should be. This is a discussion we need to have amongst staff and of course any community thoughts and input on the topic are also welcomed. The historic norm has been to use the Zukan artwork where possible and this of course doesn't contain white outlines, whereas press release artwork released by TPCi usually contains them. While unedited artwork is generally preferred, there isn't any rule that this type of image modification can't be preformed, and I think consistency is an important thing to consider here.
On a personal level, I like it more with them omitted, since most of the Sugimori artwork we have on the Archives doesn't have them and because I can find the outlines to be a bit distracting, and they are clearly not part of the Pokémon's artwork with the Zukan releases art without them but these are my subjective reasons and shouldn't be the reason a decision is based upon. 4iamking 15:47, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
