X and Y images
Hi. I gather you have a 3DS capture card and I was wondering if you would be okay with me dumping a list of things that need images from X and Y that you could reference, or if maybe you'd rather just do your own thing at your own pace? If you just wanted to pass along screenshots unedited, I'd be more than happy to do what I can to isolate sprites or whatever where necessary. Tiddlywinks (talk) 16:42, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
- I was for now aiming to go through all the moves, but sure, give me a list, if I have time, I will try to snap corresponding pictures. Concerning isolating sprites, for now I'll see what I can do myself, but if it is to difficult for me, I'll contact you :) - Mr. Flix | My talkpage 17:01, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
- I don't mean to say I'm especially "good" at image editing, I just didn't want to shove all the resposibility on you alone. =P If you have trouble, I suspect I would as well, but I'd still be happy to see if I can help if you need it.
- Needed images:
- Pokémon menu sprites:
Mega Lucario, Mega Aggron,Fancy Vivillon, Poké Ball Vivillon - PC Wallpapers
Natural objects- Berries in different growth stages. (As I recall, one Berry of a given color looks the same as another of that color at least through its flowering stage, so...)
- One of each stage from one Berry of each color.
- The last (2?) stage(s) of every Berry.
- Bag sprites: Amaze Mulch, Discount Coupon, Strange Souvenir
- Also (you may need a new game to get these early items): Prof's Letter, Intriguing Stone
- New encounter methods/areas (for encounter tables): red/purple/yellow flowers, long grass, rocky terrain, snowy terrain (probably something like this, but maybe keep the snow?), bushes (like to the left of the cuttable tree left of the bridge), trash cans, swamp, Rock Smash rocks, burrowing Pokémon...ideally something for the swooping and dropping Pokémon as well (maybe just an image of the creature shadow that darts at the player).
- At dressing rooms/boutiques: clothes, eye colors (contacts)
- At Coiffure Clips: Hair styles and colors
- Pokémon-Amie: Poké Puffs, Decorations, and Wallpapers
- Super Training Training Bags
- PR Video: backgrounds, poses, facial expressions, effects...maybe cameras?
- Menu items: Party list, Pokédex, Bag/pockets, Trainer card, Saving, Options. (Most of them have galleries like this. Otherwise just having the latest image is usually a good thing.)
- Trainer class overworld "sprites"
- Trainer class PSS icons (Like this. In the PSS Menu, open your Profile, tap your name at the top, then Public Icon.)
- HM obstacles: Rock Smash rocks (and walls?), Cuttable trees, and Strength boulders/depressions
- Pokémon menu sprites:
- I've kind of tried to order the list from most significant to least. (And it's probably not "comprehensive".) Some of them (like eye color) may seem trivial; blame the perfectionist in me. =P Some of them (like Pokémon-Amie Decorations) don't even have a page yet, but if I listed it you can pretty much bet I intend it to have a place. ;)
- Some of them might also be difficult. Like the Training Bags, which are kind of random, and the Amie decorations/wallpapers, which would require significant "grinding" to collect in full (I can tell you how to obtain everything, the only reason it isn't a page yet is because of some small doubts I want to shore up). For the hair styles and clothing, to get everything, you'll need to either have two games with your players having different genders, or else reset one to make that happen. I can lend you the Discount Coupon or Berries for Amaze Mulch (and/or for growing anything) if you need them.
- P.S. If you do want to contact me about anything sometime in the future, I check Bulbapedia much more often than here. I'll probably keep tabs here for a while, but if you ever want a quick response, you'll have much better luck contacting me on Bulbapedia. Tiddlywinks (talk) 18:05, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
- I'll just cheatingly <s></s> everything from this list I added... >.> - Mr. Flix | My talkpage 15:10, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
- On File:Box Forest VI.png, you just cut off the right edge. You should delete the blue part outside the box curve so that that area is transparent, just like Pokémon menu sprite backgrounds and other wallpapers. Tiddlywinks (talk) 15:31, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, this is not a clear cut and would need a Chroma Key or something. With my capabilities, it looks like this. Maybe I should just edit the team in such a way that it is empty and just leave it in?
- IMO that's not too bad...
- Perhaps it would be nice to leave a set of untouched images somewhere in case someone else can clean them up better, but I think the example you showed is a fair (if not "perfect", sure) image. ...One reliable way you could do that would be to upload the images like you have been and then re-uploading them with the blue parts made transparent (and someone could just grab the original versions if they ever wanted to reedit it), but I'm not sure staff would approve of that. If you want, you can just take the question of how you should deal with this to a staff member. Tiddlywinks (talk) 15:58, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Natural objects
The red and pink Berry trees look almost exactly the same... Do you think you could grab pictures of them in the daytime and see if those turn out better? (Honestly, it would be nice if all the pictures were during the day... If grabbing screenshots during the day isn't convenient for you, you could perhaps change your 3DS's clock. Daily events might get disrupted for a bit, but the stuff like weather/sun should operate just fine.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 17:00, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, after one of them I wasn't even sure which it was. Daytime is a good idea. Why don't I ever have such a simple, good idea? :/ I will update them soon, am currently to lazy to change the clock - Mr. Flix | My talkpage 17:07, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
- I'm noticing a couple things in battles with natural objects that might be useful for when you take screenshots. One is that when Pokemon attack, their HP bars briefly disappear (I have move animations turned off at the moment as well, which means no extraneous effects). Another is that when I throw a Poke Ball, the camera angle can get a pretty nice closeup of the natural object (and, again, with no HP bar), especially as the Pokemon escapes the ball. I don't know if any of that would be easy to capture, but maybe you can check it out. Tiddlywinks (talk) 07:07, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- Oh boy, I'm starting to feel embarrassed about you always having to clean up after me^^" Will do, thanks for the tips! - Mr. Flix | My talkpage 10:47, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- It looks like you forgot to update File:XY Natural Object Snow Pile.png...? Tiddlywinks (talk) 13:44, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Animated moves
It may not decrease the file size much or enough, but if you wanted to get a more static background that might optimize better, you could try battling one of the Trainers in Lumiose City. You can look here to see where the easy, respawnable Trainers are (like Punk Guy Faust); just search the page for "Trainers", and then their names will be in the area above. Tiddlywinks (talk) 04:03, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hey, that's a good idea! In fact, Lumiose's Background cut the filesize in half - to a little more than 4MB. Based on that, I remembered that the Lost Hotel has even less background, and true enough, it cut the filesize again... *drumroooooll* to a bit more than 2MB, even for such a simple move like Astonish. It will probably work for even simpler moves like Tackle or Pound, but the others... can you possibly think of an even plainer background? - Mr. Flix | My talkpage 12:02, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
- That's awesome! Well, the Battle Institute appears to have a similar background, it could be a bit smaller (although it's harder to quit; it'd probably be easiest to just soft-reset). I think that might be the generic indoor background (Gyms, Lumiose City restaurants, and Inver have it as well), but I can't think of anywhere else indoors with (convenient) battles. Tiddlywinks (talk) 12:40, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, that one is again 4MB, I guess because of the gradient and whatnot. I will search some more, but I guess it's back to static images except for the likes of Tackle or so... - Mr. Flix | My talkpage 14:44, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
