Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, MAGNEDETH!
As a new user, you probably won't bother reading this and will make numerous poor edits and get yelled at before realizing anything, so, there isn't really a point to this. Basically, it lets me feel like I'm actually contributing to the site. Enjoy!

The Manual of Style, or MoS, is one of those things we stole from Wikipedia. No one has any idea what it's for, but it makes us look more professional. Why bother reading it though, when you're obviously not going to follow it?

All of our administrators are here to abuse you! Talk to them only if they talk to you first, and mind your place. These guys are really just angry teens who need a place to vent.

Tagging images with correct licenses and categories is a bit of a drag. Try as you might, but if at first you don't succeed, you're gonna get hammered by the admins. And you won't improve. Ever.

Miscellaneous
  • There is a checklist you should read when you upload. All our users lead by example, though, which means you should disregard the checklist entirely. Why should you put in any effort here?
  • Tagging and categorizing images is important for organization, but lame in principle. Just mass upload everything using 500 tabs in Firefox. Then do 500 more in Safari.
  • Duplicate images suck. Then again, so do you, and you're still here.
  • If adding a licensing tag to anime or game screenshots, please avoid just choosing "Screenshot". While this is correct (hey, we all want to do things right!), the admins are pedantic and lazy and don't want to spend any of their valuable time cleaning up after you. Didn't I already warn you to not make them mad?
  • Does your image have a purpose? If the image has more purpose to be here than you do, it's probably already uploaded. See "duplicates".
  • Personal images totally rock! We all like personal images, and the more, the merrier. Don't get too personal though - if anyone sees Kogoro's face the world will actually implode. Seriously. You have been warned.
  • When you name your images, do it in a way that you'll remember the image. If you're a math geek, then naming all your images after the largest known prime numbers would be a sensible option.
  • Due to Bulbapedia's bitchy staff members, most of the images you upload aren't going to get used. They will suck. They will pale in comparison to what is already there. They will make your life not worth living. Long story short, you fail at wiki.
  • If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, spam this talk page. And this talk page. And especially this talk page. That third user has all the answers.
Well, I'll bet you didn't read any of that. I could have called you names and you wouldn't have noticed. Jerk! Dumbass! Redneck! American! Blocking begins in three, two, ....

Duplicate image

Just out of curiousity- why did you re-upload the exact same image I uploaded? --Hmdwgf 23:08, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

No wait, forget what I said before. The picture didn't show up correctly. Btw. that last image was a temporary image. --Hmdwgf 00:28, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
yea, server updates and all. also, your image had a TVTokyo logo on it. -- MAGNEDETH 04:05, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Please u can correcting the image of Route 3 of Gen IV of Gabo 2oo, please? --Rodney 18:19, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

spelling and grammar. two things youre going to have to use if you want anyone to understand you. -- MAGNEDETH 18:23, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
Yet you manage to understand me with my cryptic language. :] ht14 23:10, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

You MAGNEDETH can correcting the image of Route 3 from Gen IV made for CoolPikachu!, please? --Rodney 13:25, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

well HT, theres a difference in cryptic language, and gibberish. well, maybe not gibberish per-se, but it would seem English isnt Rodney's first language, so i guess i shouldnt make derogatory comments about it. either way, well get someone to take care of the image Rodney, and in the meantime, your English could use a bit more work. -- MAGNEDETH 18:30, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Excuse me

I wouldn't say that my images are horrible, seeing as they came from the official Daisuki Club site. Is mine perfect? No. Is the image currently uploaded perfect? No. If I get a source for the other image, then I'm fine.--immewnitythemew 19:17, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

As a follow-up to this, my extractor was being strange and changing coloring. But still, it wasn't horrible".--immewnitythemew 00:14, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
no, im pretty sure it was absolutely horrible. honestly, a lot of the stuff youre uploading is. whats with the horrific saturation? and im not even referring specifically to the stuff you uploaded by yourself (ie: all of the Mebukijika forms) but i see that in some spots you have reverted good artwork in favor of saturated crap. whats that about? -- MAGNEDETH 00:21, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Lemme find my convo with Jello.

Jello: did you find out what the problem was with the saturation?

immewnity: As I've stated on my talk, to Nate, and to DETH, it's my PDF extractor, but I can't find a better one. What are you using?

Jello: well...you know, you can just select the image and copy it, you don't need any special tools. lol

immewnity: true, but usually there's a black background around them. there aren't any in this case?

Jello: not for me there isn't. nope

immewnity: =-O see, I've been using Some PDF Image Extractor for other PDFs that have transparent images, and so I'm just kinda used to that.

Jello: oh well. but how did you not notice that the colours were off?

immewnity: some still have to be combined, though, right?

Jello: yeah the combining part is easy

immmewnity: I noticed the color problem. I just didn't know how to fix it. Little did I know, I was doing it the hard way.

--immewnitythemew 00:33, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

ok fine, but it still doesnt explain where you reverted good images for bad. take Dageki for example. -- MAGNEDETH 00:41, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
The older ones were scans from CoroCoro, and we have typically gone for other sources other than scans due to the leftover blurs and such left by scanning. MaverickNate 00:48, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
some of those leftover scans were much better than the pdf rip. next time, dont bother with where its from, go for the best quality. -- MAGNEDETH 01:08, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Could ya' give me a hand

I would only ask this to an admin, and I want to know, what are the best sources for files? How do I upload a file, because when I try to upload a file, it says to see how to upload a file, go to the FAQ. But then it says see here, which is the exact same place I began with! Lucario985 16:20, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Magnedeth probably won't be here to answer this, so I might as well provide a brief explanation.
When you upload a file, you have a Destination Filename (what the image you are uploading will be called), a summary box, and a licensing box. In the summary box you enter a concise description of the image as well as any categories you want to tag the image with (e.g. Category:Status ailments, Category:Pokémon Mystery Dungeon). If there is a set template for the summmary (e.g. {{Mv}}, {{anipng}}), then the categories will automatically be added. For the licensing, choose the tag which best fits the description of the image.
The best sources for images are almost certainly scans, photographs, and the like taken or extracted by you. Failing that, you can use sources that are not copyrighted, although you should give credit if it doesn't say not to. DO NOT use other fansites like Serebii, unless it has been explicitly stated that they have given you permission to use them.
I would also suggest not asking Magnedeth in the future, as he isn't very active on the archives. I would suggest asking staff members like Kogoro or Maverick Nate, as they are much more likely to provide a quicker answer. I'm not a staff member, but I can give you the basic information about this site.--Chalkwriter 20:44, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
