Bulbagarden Archives logo.png
Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, Jello!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your uploading:

The Manual of Style, or MoS, outlines the format and guidelines of all images on Bulbagarden Archives.

All of our administrators are here to help! Talk to them if you have any questions or problems with the Archives.

Tagging images with correct licenses and categories is a must. These guidelines will help you learn more about tagging images.

Miscellaneous
  • Please read the checklist when you upload media files. The checklist is there to make sure you are doing everything necessary when uploading said media files.
  • Be sure to tag and categorize all images. This helps organize the vast amount of images we have here.
  • Check if your image already exists by searching through categories, and Bulbapedia pages. This action will help prevent unnecessary duplicates from appearing.
  • When adding a licensing tag to anime or game screenshots, please avoid just choosing "Screenshot". This is not descriptive and places the images in the wrong category. Make sure to choose "Screenshot from a Pokémon game," or "Screenshot from the Pokémon anime." This will put them in the right categories, and help keep the Archives clean.
  • Does your image have a purpose? Will you be using it on a Bulbagarden Project? Avoid uploading images because you think they are "Cute" or "Awesome". That clutters the Archives.
  • Personal images are limited to two for each User. Personal images include personal logos, personal trainer sprites, drawings, trainer cards and mostly any image that would only be used in the User: namespace and have no encyclopedic value to Bulbagarden and its affiliates. Please tag these with the {{i-Personal}} template for easier organization. Under no circumstance should a photograph of one's self ever be uploaded onto Bulbagarden Archives.
  • In addition, please upload images with meaningful names. Names that are just numbers, for example, do not describe anything about the image, and can make it difficult for searchers. Names are just as important as licenses and categories, so make them descriptive. Please be sure that the filenames contain alphanumeric characters only.
  • Due to the many automated templates used on the wiki, lowercase extensions are imperative. That means jpg and png instead of JPG and PNG. It looks cleaner, it works better, and it does not cause any problems. Make sure to always use lowercase extensions.
  • If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide.
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here!

Be careful!

2 probs when you were changing the Stadium images into transparency, the first of which will involve me going and reverting them all, redoing them, and then fixing problem 2.

  • As evidenced easily at File:Stadium003.png, some aspects (such as Venusaur's fangs) were accidentally removed when making transparent.
  • When you make them transparent, take away the needs transparency template.

Thank you, immewnitythemew 00:36, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I should have been more careful. I'll try going around and fixing them again if they haven't been already. As for 2, I was not aware that I could remove the templates; I thought that kind of thing was left to the admins. Thanks for pointing that out. --Jello 04:31, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
It's okay. I forget about templates all the time. It was mostly just problem one. And, as I've also been told, only welcome users that have contributed. Thanks!--immewnitythemew 23:58, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Location pics

Hey. I could use some help on getting location pics. Interested? --Hmdwgf 18:26, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Sure, I have been adding images to that area from time to time. What do you have in mind? Jello 18:31, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Great. This and this. This is an almighty task, and that's why I've been rounding up a few trustworthy users who can get good quality pics for these articles. --Hmdwgf 18:40, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Fantastic. Just keep it coming, and we can get this done faster than you can say "Pokémon". --Hmdwgf 19:23, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
You've been doing a great job so far and I really need your help getting these location and header pics. Just keep them coming, especially those Pikachu shorts pics. --Hmdwgf 16:08, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I'm just waiting for the rest of the episodes to download which is taking quite a while, also, I can't seem to find anything about the newer Pikachu shorts. :( Jello 23:20, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
So you do know about that... the talk pages are not the places to talk about that. I'll e-mail you a few source pages. --Hmdwgf 17:35, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Thank you

For sifting through all those images and putting the delete tag on the ones that weren't used. However, when you replaced the series head image template on the other, you should have put on {{i-Fairuse-screenshot-anime}}, and not just {{i-Fairuse-anime}}. The latter is only for things like posters, artwork, and any non screenshot, anime related material. Do you mind going through and fixing the ones you just did? MaverickNate 20:49, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Ah, sorry about that, I knew I was missing something. I'll go fix them again. Thanks --Jello 20:51, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Hey

Thanks for your help and all, but can you please ensure that the sprites are actually unused? The one I just moved is currently being used by someone's userpage... ht14 23:14, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Alrighty no problem, I thought it would be okay since it only linked to a user page, so shouldn't that be classified under personal images? Sorry for any trouble. Jello 23:18, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Check your e-mail MaverickNate 23:20, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

...now it's gone to the point where it links to the mainspace... ht14 04:36, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

I've replaced those images with the .pngs on their pages. It shouldn't be a problem now hopefully. Jello 05:20, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
When you upload the images, you want breaks in between the lines, not spaces. Just an enter break would be fine, you don't need to go all fancy and use the <br>. Mind doing that from now on? MaverickNate 23:26, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Thank you! =] MaverickNate 23:56, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Few things to Ask !!!

Hey Jello, firstly I would like to say thank you for all the help. Well, I succeeded in solving Art Work from Red & Green problem but I am still facing some problem in spirits. I can easily make them transparent but the frames aren't working properly. I would like to ask few questions.

1. Is it necessary/must to set the speed to 250ms?
2. Is it necessary to write Layer 1 (250ms) (replace)? Can I write COMBINE instead of REPLACE?
3. How to confirm the correct size of the images? (32px x 48px etc.)
4. Can I save the images as animation?
Thank You. --♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 15:31, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
No problem!
1. Well, if you're working from already animated frames, it's best to leave the set speed. However, if you're working from scratch, figuring out the timing can be difficult, especially with a lot of frames.
2. 'Replace' is what clears the previous frame. This is what you want in your animations, seeing as how yours had all the frames squished together. 'Combine' does what it's named for, it combines all the frames together, and doesn't clear the previous frames.
3. The correct size depends on what's the standard here. I looked over at User:UltimateSephiroth/Sprites to get some kind of idea, since that user seems more informant about these kinds of things. You can look at the majority size of the sprites uploaded, that should also give you a good guess. If you're really unsure, it'd be best to ask an admin.
4. Yes, you can save as 'animation'.
Also, I just looked over the animated sprites you uploaded and noticed a few more things. You need to be careful that you get all the white parts out. Some of the frames, you seemed to have missed a spot. Try hiding all the layers and then working on one frame at a time. You can also preview the animation by going to 'Filters' → 'Animation' → 'Playback'. It's a tedious task, but it's better to get it right the first time. --JelloTalk 20:18, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Got it. I will again try to follow your steps and I will try to ask User:UltimateSephiroth/Sprites about this stuff too. Thanks again :) --♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 02:38, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Er hem.

Make sure that when adding the gamesprite template, they are the sprites for those games only. I believe all the Pokémon found in the regional dex of Platinum have their separate sprites. Simply put, look on the bottom of each sprite to see if it says duplicate. Then follow accordingly. Or, you can have a look at this. Also, it's i-Fairuse-sprite-game, not i-Fairuse-sprite-game-alt. Minor thing. ht14 21:38, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Okay, thank you! I was basically following the format for the other Gen IV sprites and it had the -alt thing at the end. JelloTalk 21:44, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
Are you sure you're not looking at the animated ones? Those have the -alt in the end. ht14 21:47, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry, I guess that was the problem. JelloTalk 21:55, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

OD Sprites

Can you resize the Amity Square ones so they are the same as the HGSS ones? ht14 04:50, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

You sure about that? What size do you want them? 32x32? JelloTalk 15:54, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Guess so, consistency and all. ht14 04:31, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

OD Sprites (2)

See your BP talk page. ht14 23:14, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

According to TTE, only Venusaur, Pikachu, Meganium, Wobbuffet, Steelix, Heracross, Combee, Gible, Gabite, Garchomp, Hippopotas, and Hippowdon have alternate sprites. ht14 20:32, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

I see, I guess that explains the duplicate file. Thanks. JelloTalk 20:42, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

CAN YA?

WELL? TTEchidna 04:33, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

YEAH, I CAN. JelloTalk 04:34, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Hey

Just wonderin'. What powers do you have as admin? ht14 00:06, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Whatever Junior Administrators are supposed to have. [1] lists what I can do. I can move stuff, lol. JelloTalk 00:10, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
Don't you feel special. :] What of this: Delete and undelete specific revisions of pages (deleterevision)? ht14 00:13, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
I can't delete stuff if that's what you're asking. But I can hide/delete specific revisions of files. JelloTalk 00:18, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
Ahh. Thanks for this clarification. I'm still new to this "New Admin" thing. :) ht14 00:25, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Utilizing {{gamesprite}}

Dual games such as HGSS and FRLG have s in the end. For instance, the template for Bulbasaur's FRLG sprite would be as follows: {{gamesprite|001|Bulbasaur|FireRed and LeafGreen|s}}. The (s) is to avoid rdrs. ht14 00:40, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Haha, thank you! Didn't see that. JelloTalk 00:40, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Utilizing {{delete}}

While I agree with some of your ideas, realize that some images are meant to be personal images that are labeled incorrectly, licensing-wise. Don't worry, you're doing fine. ht14 21:49, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

I was thinking that too, that's why I left that reason in the way that I did. Those images were meant for a totally useless article on Bulbapedia that got deleted anyway. JelloTalk 21:54, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
I left a talk page comment. I'll wait for about a week before deleting them. ht14 21:59, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

For the help in the category thing. I was going to do it later tonight, but now all I need to to is the little monsters and categorize the uncategorized.--immewnitythemew 19:52, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

No problem, we should be finished with this soon, since PsychicRider is helping out as well. JelloTalk 19:54, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
...is it done already? Wow, that was fast! Thanks for the help!--immewnitythemew 20:18, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Resizing/JPG->PNG

Try not to do either. If an image doesn't fit as the original PNG, convert to JPG. Yes, there will be a slight loss of quality, but not too bad. If the original is a JPG, don't convert it to PNG. The image doesn't look any better, the file's bigger, and, to compensate for the 2MB limit, you must resize. The Ranger: Guardian Signs box art and the Ecruteak City landscape were both subjected to this. Do what I did for File:HGSS Johto.jpg and delete the PNG, with changing any PNG link to JPG. Just because PNG thumbnails better doesn't mean that a loss of quality another way will compensate.--immewnitythemew 19:51, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Sorry if this sounded rude; I didn't mean for it to. Here are a bunch of HUGE cookies to make up for it! :D--immewnitythemew 20:58, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Hey, don't worry about it. I know you have a valid point. I have found that you can compress pngs, but that unfortunately takes a very long time. The Archives' rules and policy aren't that clear, and until we have something set in stone, I'm not sure what I should say or do. I would like to point out though, that extremely hi-res images are unnecessary, since these resolutions are meant for print. And in a way, it seems to be catering to and making it easier for people who pirate games and things along that line. As you can see, on Wikipedia, images aren't that hi-res because they claim fair use, and it isn't fair to Nintendo and other companies if we're uploading such extremely hi-res images. But I know these rules and policies don't apply here, so I'm just waiting on official word from higher ups. So as you can see, I was trying to go for a middle ground in terms of fair use. If you have any suggestions, I'm sure other administrators wouldn't mind hearing it. Thanks. JelloTalk 21:48, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
