:If we're going to have both this image and the Expedition image, you're right, any appropriate categories need to be transferred over to the e-reader card. Historically, we only provide one image per artwork, so the extra categories, like :Category:Rocket Gang Strikes Back, :Category:EX Dragon Frontiers, and :Category:Shockwave! Tyranitar ex Constructed Standard Deck should still be listed in order to maintain representations of those cards within those categories. ==I have another question==
Why is this way preferred, and where can I find a guide to help with any others?  Finger (talk) 02:28, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
:So, for this template, the set and illus fields are the default, and the caption section is the override. The instructions for it were written here, but that's admittedly not a very easy place to get to.
:As for where you can find more, this category on BP proper has a list of all the template pages that have their instructions written out so far. But bear with the staff as we work on getting more of them written. We've been trying to prioritize making editing more accessible here lately, which hasn't always been the case. I was admiring the contributions from Moonboy65, when I noticed they had come to an abrupt end, on January 13, after what appears to be a disagreement with user Lewtwo over this image. Clearly he didn't appreciate the way he was spoken to. On looking through the talk pages of Lewtwo, it appears this abrasive response was not a one off, and it appears this Lewtwo likes to get their own way with scant regard for authority. I found this all very disconcerting, especially as it appears this Lewtwo is still editing without any change in their attitude, while Moonboy65 is still nowhere to be seen.  Finger (talk) 00:51, 28 March 2023 (UTC)

Re: Some quick notes
Hey Maverick Nate! I've been scanning some Pokemon cards of mine and thought I would upload them for the wiki (seeing how a lot of them are missing), so it's been pretty fun! :) I love contributing any way I can!
I actually didn't know about the 1280px image size restriction and was only aware of the file size limit, so I had been downsizing my scans and compressing them just to meet the 2mb requirement for use on the website. Would you be able to link me to the FAQ or page that has the information on image restrictions, etc.? I can't seem to find it lol. The original scans are very large to include as much detail as possible (for accurate preservation purposes mostly) so that's the reason the dimensions are as big as they are. But if you need the image size to be smaller, I'd be more than happy to oblige! Just let me know!
I guess I might as well ask, but is there a particular reason behind the image size limit? I understand the file size limit of course, but I'm curious about the dimension size one. Oh, and sorry about the initial "JPEG" naming of my image too. I must have left it that way by mistake. Thanks for informing me to use JPG instead of JPEG for extensions. I didn't know about that either, so I'll make sure my uploads use JPG from now on! :)
Thanks again!  King Kerog (talk) 09:18, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
:Ahh, so that explains why I couldn't find it, lol! And the point about not wanting to provide counterfeiters with super high resolution scans makes total sense. I can see why that rule would be in place for TCG scans at least. Perhaps the rule is just outdated when referring to all types of images? Like you were saying, maybe the rule listed on the main page should be revisited, or at least clarified if it applies only to specific types of images, e.g., TCG scans.
:Out of curiosity, I went looking for images with large dimensions and there are a lot uploaded. An example being: :File:Kotobukiya Iono and Bellibolt Naoki Saito.jpg. It's quite large at 2,893 × 4,093px, but it would also seem wrong to alter official art from the original source (Official website/twitter/etc.) just to meet the 1280px requirement. So I think your theory is right. Either way, to be safe I'll resize my scans to 1280px for now and if things change I'll upload the high res compressed versions!
:To answer your question about my collection: I have quite a lot of WotC cards that are in good condition. I think I have 600-700 cards? I don't remember the exact number, but it's all my collection from when I was a kid. Oh, and I definitely agree that it would be redundant to upload every reprint of each card lmao. When the only difference is one small symbol in the corner, it would be a total waste of time. I wasn't planning on uploading Base Set 2/Legendary scans if they had no changes from the original print.
:But anyways, you've been a great help and super informative, so thank you for all the assistance you've provided me with! King Kerog (talk) 12:02, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
Would a scan be a better image for this card?
Hi, I have a copy of Dragonite (Roaring Skies 52) (the Cosmos Holo version, if it matters) and I'd like to scan it for the Archives. However, I'm unsure if my scan would be necessary, because the existing image seems to be of good quality. The only things that my scan would offer over the existing image are the fact that it's a scan instead of a digital mockup, and it's in English instead of Japanese (which I don't think is necessary?). Should I leave it as is, or upload my scan? Here's an example of what my scans look like. Thanks. Porygon-man (talk) 22:19, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
:English language cards are always preferred over any Japanese cards, while scanned images are preferable to digital ones, so to answer your question quickly, yes if you were to upload the scan of the card you have, it would be very much appreciated and wanted :)  <span style="font-family:noteworthy;color:#FF1493">4iam</span><span style="font-family:papyrus;color:#8A2BE2">king</span> 01:14, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

Re: Personal scans
Original message: "Hi! I noticed you upload some card scans recently to replace some of our less desired images. That's great! I do have 2 requests that I hope you can fulfill with your scans going forward.
* The scan quality on :File:EnergyStadiumNeoDestiny99.jpg and :File:CharizardDragonStorm3.jpg is a bit lower than we typically desire. The bottom text on Energy Stadium in particular is a bit difficult to make out accurately. I'm not confident what settings you are currently using, but I remember when I had that problem, I increased the DPI and the images started coming out in better quality.
* If possible, please try and get a tighter crop on your scans. Some of the whitespace creates enough of a size difference to affect the final output of the images on mobile. We try to get it as close to the edges as possible while also still including the gaps at the corners.
If you have any questions, please get in touch! Thanks."
Reply: Will do. I've started scanning the cards at 600 DPI instead of 300 DPI. I've rescanned Energy Stadium and Charizard, though I think I'll have to scan Energy Stadium at an even higher DPI because the copyright info at the bottom is still a little grainy. Better, but could still be improved. Of course, I'll resize them to the 1280 pixel limit.
*As for the whitespace, I will try my best, however, with the holofoil cards, sometimes the added weight of the holofoil causes a bend in the card, so that even when I straighten the image, when viewed head-on, the edges are not perfectly straight.
*While I've got you, I have a question about :File:021276 P EREBU.jpg (and other files like it). I'll just copy and paste what I put on the talk page: Hi, I have scanned the English version of this card and would like to upload it. Which way is the the way to go:
::A) Simply upload over the existing image, change the licensing template, remove the "Cards from the official card database" category, and request a move
::B) Upload the English scan separately, replace the image on the Bulbapedia page, and nominate this (Japanese) version for deletion
Thanks for getting back to me! Porygon-man (talk) 05:20, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
:As long as you are trying your best to adhere to the advice, that's all I can really ask. I know sometimes other issues make it not reasonable, so just do what you can!
:We prefer option A. We like to preserve the history of the image in a transparent way so uploading over the old and adding the new tags is the way to go. Hope this helps! == Link templates ==
A few days ago, there was a discusssion in the discord about people being confused about which link templates are actually avaiable on the archives as opposed to bulbapedia. I sugeested having a page similar to BP:LLT, so I've written up a draft with available templates, how to use them, and examples. Only thing is I'm unsure of how to submit it for staff review. Should I create a page in my userspace similar to on pedia, or should I just send you a text file? I hope you can review this page soon so it'll be a help to editors. Thanks! →<small> PikaTepig999</small> 03:37, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
:To be honest, I trust this enough for you to publish it at Archives:List of link templates from the get go. I think any review that I'd do could easily just happen there. I look forward to seeing it! ::Thank you for your trust. I've included most of the templates from :Category:Link templates, although some templates might be missing due to being uncategorized. Additionally, some templates on BP were never created on the archives, such as template:pal, template:gal, template:al, template:hi, template:rf etc. (Not that they have to be created, since their use case on the archives is pretty low compared to BP, but just letting you know.) The page is now live. Please feel free to let me know if there's anything else I can do to assist. →<small> PikaTepig999</small> 07:04, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
