It used the attack against Dragon Ascent, which can causes a status effect, just like how that Vivillon in XY012 used Safeguard against Dolan's Diggersby's Mud Shot, a move which can also cause a status effect. Also, what status move was Deoxys protecting itself from in AG171? And the crack in the protective barrier doesn't mean its protect. A crack can occur in any kind of barrier. So again, how is this definitely Protect? Playerking95 (talk) 09:46, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

:Huh? Dragon Ascent doesn't cause any status effect. And wasn't it you who said moves can differ between the main anime and Pokémon Generations? So those arguments you used don't go up here according to your own logic. We don't know how Safeguard works in Generations so we can be pretty sure this is Protect because it shielded Deoxys from Dragon Ascent. And no, Dragon Ascent does not cause any status effects, so there's that too. Blazingfist (talk) 10:10, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
