Welcome

Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, Watchermark!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your uploading:

The Manual of Style, or MoS, outlines the format and guidelines of all images on Bulbagarden Archives.

All of our administrators are here to help! Talk to them if you have any questions or problems with the Archives.

Tagging images with correct licenses and categories is a must. These guidelines will help you learn more about tagging images.

Miscellaneous
  • Please read the checklist when you upload media files. The checklist is there to make sure you are doing everything necessary when uploading said media files.
  • Be sure to tag and categorize all images. This helps organize the vast amount of images we have here.
  • Check if your image already exists by searching through categories, and Bulbapedia pages. This action will help prevent unnecessary duplicates from appearing.
  • When adding a licensing tag to anime or game screenshots, please avoid just choosing "Screenshot". This is not descriptive and places the images in the wrong category. Make sure to choose "Screenshot from a Pokémon game," or "Screenshot from the Pokémon anime." This will put them in the right categories, and help keep the Archives clean.
  • Does your image have a purpose? Will you be using it on a Bulbagarden Project? Avoid uploading images because you think they are "Cute" or "Awesome". That clutters the Archives.
  • Personal images are limited to two for each User. Personal images include personal logos, personal trainer sprites, drawings, trainer cards and mostly any image that would only be used in the User: namespace and have no encyclopedic value to Bulbagarden and its affiliates. Please tag these with the {{i-Personal}} template for easier organization. Under no circumstance should a photograph of one's self ever be uploaded onto Bulbapedia Archives.
  • In addition, please upload images with meaningful names. Names that are just numbers, for example, do not describe anything about the image, and can make it difficult for searchers. Names are just as important as licenses and categories, so make them descriptive.
  • Due to the many automated templates used on the wiki, lowercase extensions are imperative. That means jpg and png instead of JPG and PNG. It looks cleaner, it works better, and it does not cause any problems. Make sure to always use lowercase extensions.
  • If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide.
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here!

Hi

Please read the checklist when you upload media files, and be sure to tag and categorize all images. If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide. --—darklordtrom 01:51, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

To make things easier when you upload, put the categories in the summary box on the upload form. The guide linked to above will show you how its done. —darklordtrom 00:52, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
You aren't supposed to put licensing in the summary box. You are supposed to summarize the image and put the categories there. Choosing a licensing tag already takes care of the license. MaverickNate 18:49, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, won't happen again. Watchermark 18:56, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

pics

There were a few pics eariler that I uploaded that replaced the ones you uploaded. They were squeezed, real bad quality and had logos on the bottom. This is a big problem because of copyright issues. But anyway, there's something you should know if you intend to upload any pics from Pokémon movies in the future. The frame ratio (width of the picture divided by the height) of a pic from a Pokémon movie has to be 1.78 or something close to that. Such as: 854x480, 712x400 and so on and so on. And please don't upload pics with even a partial logo on them. Keep both those things in mind. But other than that, good job so far categorizing and uploading .png pics. --Hmdwgf 20:42, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Filenames

Please don't upload files with names that contain nonalphanumeric filenames. Such filenames can cause problems for the server. Especially problematic are images that have macrons in their names--even before the no-nonalphanumeric policies, it was well known that characters such as macron-equipped vowels, chiisai-Us, gender symbols, and the like cause database errors and, as such, made easy targets for deletion. Make sure that any filename you upload contains only alphanumeric characters (any letter or number, as well as the space, underscore, and standard dash) from now on. --Shiningpikablu252 18:33, 5 December 2009 (UTC) I realised my error after the second attempted upload. Sorry, won't happen again. Watchermark 18:52, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

This also includes an apostrophe. MaverickNate 00:33, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Summaries

Try to provide summaries next time you upload pics. Thanks. --Hmdwgf 00:17, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Another reminder. Summaries please, thanks! ht14 21:28, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

AshHeracross.png

I'm not sure why you uploaded this under a different name when File:Ash Heracross.png already exists. JelloTalk 00:32, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Excadrill

Hey Watchermark, I deleted the drill mode image that you uploaded because we already have a better one (features full body and is in better/HD quality). Just for future reference, kindly use "Upload a new version" button on the respective image instead of uploading a separate one since both, this and the one you uploaded, had the same purpose. If you have any other question regarding it then please feel free to ask. Thank you ♫♪エイディニズ♪♫ 17:15, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

spaces

Please put spaces in between words of the file names of the non-TCG images you upload. For example, Juniper Karrablast.png is better instead of JuniperKarrablast.png. Pattyman (talk) 01:46, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Linking to Bulbapedia

Links to Bulbapedia articles in file summaries need to be accomplished through link templates. Using standard [[Title]] linking will create local Archives links that direct to non-existent pages. Thanks, - Kogoro - Talk to me - 23:42, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Image resolution

Those anime images you uploaded recently have exceeded the resolution limit of 1280px. Please keep in mind that they should not exceed 1280px. Pattyman (talk) 20:29, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Changing categories

Just so that you know, when uploading a new version of an already existing image, which require the image's categories to be altered, adding them to your edit summary won't do the thing. You have to select the "Edit" function from the top of the page and edit them that way. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 08:18, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
