What should I use if I shouldn't use paint? Theryguy512 15:06, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

pngs

We want pngs for certain things like episode head images. We want to put the image into the template so we don't have to worry about people changing them. We want good pngs, but we also would rather not have other formats. So, we may accept jpgs, we just would rather have pngs. Maverick Nate 20:20, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

I see. Well, my complaints were mainly about converting jpg to png, which usually makes no sense. But I believe I see the reason why you want PNGs: When the uploaded file is resized to a pretty small size (for some kind of template) and then gets compressed as JPG by MediaWiki since the original uploaded file was in this format too, it might not look very good because of the artifacts. Is my guess right, is that the reason for PNGs? A possible solution would be to configure MediaWiki to make it compress resized JPGs at a higher quality setting, for example 80 oder 85 instead of 70 or 75 or so. I don't know for sure, but I'm rather certain this can be changed in the MediaWiki configuration. o.o" --Nyoo 20:37, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

We don't like when they are converted to png from jpg. We like when they are taken as Pngs. I don't know about mediawiki thing though... Another reason we want pngs is because we have had multiple cases of people stealing images, which is against our rules as well as the other sites. Other sites usually only carry pngs, so we are trying to prevent the stealing by restricting the uploading of jpgs and gifs. Maverick Nate 00:03, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Also

We do have a rule against watermarks, and we have removed the images whenever we see them. We don't want them at all. Watermarks are just seen as bad here, and we don't want to deal with that unnecessary hassle. So, we delete things with watermarks because that is what we believe. Maverick Nate 20:24, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh, I didn't know that. Where should I have read about this? I was kinda looking for rules on such things, but I guess I missed it. --Nyoo 20:37, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

It isn't a written down rule, per say, we mostly just talked about it. It should appear in the MoS when the Archives MoS gets the rewrite like all the rest did. Maverick Nate 00:00, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Deletion

You can't just delete things without delinking them. That is just inconsiderate towards anyone using the images. Maverick Nate 02:00, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Is that referring to the removal of the duplicate Frontier Brain art? I did change the Frontier Brain articles and usually I check if pages still link to a file. Sorry. --Nyoo 17:25, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
Then why are they still used on mainspace pages, as well as userspace pages? If you were telling the truth and actually removed the links, then they wouldn't. Now stop trying to be the highest authority on images, because you most certainly aren't. Maverick Nate 15:04, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
They seem to be in some user pages. I didn't want to go and change user pages. --Nyoo 15:20, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Some user pages, and the head image of Hall Matron Argenta. Maverick Nate 15:22, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't know what you want. :\ Before I did the delete, I did this edit: [1] Also, maybe we shouldn't have this discussion in talk pages and the forum at the same time. :\ --Nyoo 16:24, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey!

Why did you delete my Frontier Brain pictures? They were in PNG format. Don't you know that everything is wanted in PNG now? You should restore them and delete the JPGs. --Kenji-girl 06:03, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Even if png is a preferred format, it is pointless to take jpgs, save them as png and re-upload them. (And I've seen TTEchidna agree on that point, by the way.) So don't do that anymore, please. There is no reason to replace existing jpgs by default. In fact, I was going to upload new Frontier Brain art soon because the current ones went through incorrect CMYK->RGB color conversion which I didn't at first. This is just another reason to not take the current ones and use them for something else / re-upload them. I'm waiting for the outcome of an administrator discussion though before uploading better art. --Nyoo 17:14, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
There are some reasons why pngs are needed now. The episode templates on the wiki only support pngs, and jpgs can no longer be used as head images. The whole point was to have images taken as pngs in the first place, and not converted from jpg. Maverick Nate 18:57, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
This is not about episode pictures, though. --Nyoo 19:05, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
Let me tell you the difference. The difference isn't that noticeable when the picture is at its full resolution. But when thumbnailed, PNGs look better than JPGs. JPGs always have a weird blotchy look to them when they are thumbnailed and put in the infobox. Here, look at this:

Examples removed

You see the difference? I was only trying to help Bulbapedia, not piss you off. And I wasn't trying to be "sneaky". You need to deal with some of your uploads getting replaced from time to time. It happens to me a lot. If you don't like it, then don't submit them. Whether it's about episode pictures or game art, there isn't a difference. I took the time to add transparency to your JPGs and converted them so that it would look better on Bulbapedia. I didn't merely take your uploads and repost them as PNGs.
Just know that we are not here to compete with each other. We're here to upload the best pictures. I'm sorry that this turned into such an issue. --Kenji-girl 22:17, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Long time no see

Try to make sure each image has a summary describing what is being shown. Also, would you be able to get high quality pngs of the Hoenn and Sinnoh Gym Leaders? MaverickNate 16:57, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Whoa

Where'd that Musical image come from? Also, nice to see you back after a year!--immewnitythemew 20:25, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

I was wondering this too :L And where the .psd files you were talking about came from :D --S2daam 20:44, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
