Scarlet & Violet scans
Hey there! I know you are pulling the new images from the card gallery on tcg.pokemon.com, but before we go any further, I have a few things that need to be mentioned beforehand.
- The corners on those images have issues. In order to use those images, the corners have to be edited to be accurate to what a card actually looks like. This can be done by taking the alpha layer of a card with the correct corners and use it as a layer mask within an image editing program. That's why those images haven't been uploaded yet, but this needs to happen before we do upload them.
- Second, all card images coming from any official website still need to be using
{{i-Fairuse-carddb}}
.{{i-Fairuse-tcg}}
is only supposed to be used on personal scans of cards provided by users (which is the final goal of the website). I will be reverting those changes back to the carddb template, since that's what the template is to be used for.
I appreciate the interest in getting the English images up. The website really needs it, but not at the expense of the normal expectations we have regarding digital images of cards. Let me know if these image edits are something you can do, or if you have any other questions! Thanks MaverickNate 01:15, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Nate! Thanks for the heads up, the squarish corners do look a bit weird indeed. I’m afraid those image edits are a little too advanced for me, so I won’t be of any help there. The
{{i-Fairuse-tcg}}
template was used on some of the English scans that had already been uploaded (like this one or this one), that’s why I changed it. But I’ll be sure to use the correct template in the future! PokéTimNL (talk) 16:36, 20 April 2023 (UTC)- Ahhh, yeah, I admit that sometimes it is hard to remember which one to use. But at least know you know the reasoning behind it so that maybe we can all double check anything we come across.
- As for the digital images, the previous expansions didn't seem to have this problem, so I wonder if when Paldea Evolved is uploaded to that site, if they will have the correct corners like they used to have. I've gone through and fixed the corners on SV1 last night, so I'll be uploading those images today, but I imagine getting past sets uploaded too would be a worthwhile task. - I double-checked tcg.pokemon.com and some sets (like Rebel Clash and Brilliant Stars) have the same issue. Other sets just have the regular rounded corners, so it seems a bit random. But every now and then I’ll upload some of the the correct scans a few at a time! PokéTimNL (talk) 08:42, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for powering through many of these old images. Don't forget that any images that come from an official site should have their licensing tag changed to
{{i-Fairuse-carddb}}
! Thanks! MaverickNate 06:37, 7 May 2023 (UTC)- Yes, of course! I'll change that and make sure I'll use that licensing tag for future uploads! PokéTimNL (talk) 11:56, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
- I forgot to mention it, but the images actually don’t come from an official Pokémon website. I got them from pkmncards.com. A lot of sets on the official website have those squarish corners, and if they don’t, the quality on pkmncards is still much better. Do I then still need to change the licensing to
{{i-Fairuse-carddb}}
? PokéTimNL (talk) 12:41, 7 May 2023 (UTC)- Ahhh, if that's where they are coming from, then it wouldn't be right to use carddb then. But, we still have to cite our sources, so having that mentioned somewhere is something we should be doing. Maybe add that to the upload summary the next time you do them? MaverickNate 12:52, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
- Great, I'll do that! Thanks! PokéTimNL (talk) 12:53, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
- Just FYI, the Shining Fates scans do come from the official website, so I'll change those to
{{i-Fairuse-carddb}}
. PokéTimNL (talk) 08:45, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
