Welcome

Bulbagarden Archives logo.png
Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, Pattyman!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your uploading:

The Manual of Style, or MoS, outlines the format and guidelines of all images on Bulbagarden Archives.

All of our administrators are here to help! Talk to them if you have any questions or problems with the Archives.

Tagging images with correct licenses and categories is a must. These guidelines will help you learn more about tagging images.

Miscellaneous
  • Please read the checklist when you upload media files. The checklist is there to make sure you are doing everything necessary when uploading said media files.
  • Be sure to tag and categorize all images. This helps organize the vast amount of images we have here.
  • Check if your image already exists by searching through categories, and Bulbapedia pages. This action will help prevent unnecessary duplicates from appearing.
  • When adding a licensing tag to anime or game screenshots, please avoid just choosing "Screenshot". This is not descriptive and places the images in the wrong category. Make sure to choose "Screenshot from a Pokémon game," or "Screenshot from the Pokémon anime." This will put them in the right categories, and help keep the Archives clean.
  • Does your image have a purpose? Will you be using it on a Bulbagarden Project? Avoid uploading images because you think they are "Cute" or "Awesome". That clutters the Archives.
  • Personal images are limited to two for each User. Personal images include personal logos, personal trainer sprites, drawings, trainer cards and mostly any image that would only be used in the User: namespace and have no encyclopedic value to Bulbagarden and its affiliates. Please tag these with the {{i-Personal}} template for easier organization. Under no circumstance should a photograph of one's self ever be uploaded onto Bulbagarden Archives.
  • In addition, please upload images with meaningful names. Names that are just numbers, for example, do not describe anything about the image, and can make it difficult for searchers. Names are just as important as licenses and categories, so make them descriptive. Please be sure that the filenames contain alphanumeric characters only.
  • Due to the many automated templates used on the wiki, lowercase extensions are imperative. That means jpg and png instead of JPG and PNG. It looks cleaner, it works better, and it does not cause any problems. Make sure to always use lowercase extensions.
  • If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide.
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here!

Hi (Part 1)

Please upload anime screenshots as .png and not .jpg. Thanks Jellotalk 19:59, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Important 1

I can't stress this enough but, please, please don't upload any screenshots from Serebii. They do not like us taking their stuff. Also, the screenshots you're uploading are very bad in quality, please try to get clear and clean shots. This has been your last warning. Jellotalk 03:50, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

How am I taking stuff from serebii (not counting the Marill one)? Also, are you referring to the Swampert pic or all of the ones that I uploaded (I am a beginner in this so I didn't know what bad quality meant in terms of uploading)? Pattyman 18:38, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
The one you posted on my page was from Serebii, and you uploaded that same exact image here. File:Ash Oshawott.png is an example of a good quality image. File:Cadee Mareep.png is an acceptable image (see the dimensons: 320x240) Generally, taking screenshots from Youtube is not a good idea either (unless the quality is really good or HD) Jellotalk 18:48, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
I had to upload those very quickly because I would have been locked out again. I just saw in Solana's page that someone already got rid off the unnecessary pics. Pattyman 19:01, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Important 2

I removed them because they were taken from Serebii. --Psyライダー 19:03, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

I knew that (mentioned above). I was about to do it but you already got the job done. Pattyman 19:06, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
From now on, get your images from like Filb.de, like Jello mentioned above. They're cleaner and better than Serebii's pictures. Filb also has given us permission to use their images, while Serebii has not, nor will we ever want to use his images. Also, uploading bad quality images because you needed to do them quickly isn't much of an excuse, next time, find time to upload better images. Thank you. --Psyライダー 19:19, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Important 3

When uploading, just upload the image once, and the server will eventually swap over to the newest revision. There is no need to upload the same image as many times as you did. Thank you. --Psyライダー 19:56, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

When I uploaded the new image the first time, it kept on taking me to the old one instead [Even with the multiple uploads (that was when you said power off Einstein)]. Pattyman 20:07, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
That's what always happens, you should have refreshed the page. Also, keep the attitude problem off the page thanks. --Psyライダー 20:26, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry for what happened before. Pattyman 23:32, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

You have been blocked

Because you have failed to stop uploading images from Serebii.net. Considering you said "This image from serebii did not show Tracey's head completely.", it tells me you did steal it from Serebii. Take this day off to possibly find better images not from Serebii. Further insubordination will result in a longer block. Thank you. --Psyライダー 17:40, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Good job

Your most recent upload of Rochelle. That's how anime screenshots should look. Keep that up and you're good to go. Jellotalk 02:24, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I appreciate it. Looks like the jpg counterpart of Rochelle can be deleted. Pattyman 02:34, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
No problem. Also, next time you're replacing a .jpg just put a {{delete|reason here}} tag on it, so admins can find it easily and delete it. Thanks. Jellotalk 02:38, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Utilizing the {{delete}} template

Only use it when you are sure the image is unused in the 'pedia. In other words, put the template after you have at least put up the replacement or removed it from Bulbapedia. One instance of that was your choice of putting up the template for File:Gary-and-misty.jpg, which is currently used in Shipping:EgoShipping. ht14 00:20, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Hey, this is your second warning. Make sure that when you use the {{delete}} template, that, unless it's userpages, the image in question is currently unused in Bulbapedia and/or Bulbanews. Chances are that the reason that there was a revert war between you and Renzo493 in the first place was because of your lack of replacing the proper image on Bulbapedia before using the delete template. If you have any questions, speak to me here after your block is over. ht14 04:05, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

File titles

The standard here is either the name followed by "manga" or "Adventures." So for instance, it'd be File:Giovanni Nidoking Adventures.png or File:Giovanni Nidoking manga.png. Preferably, it'd be the former, but in any case, the "manga" should be lowercase. That goes for anime images as well: "anime" is lowercase. Thanks. ht14 03:58, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi (Part 2)

Please do not upload files with non-alphanumeric characters in its name. The only characters allowed are A-Z, a-z, and 0-9. If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide. --ht14 00:21, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

I know what you're referring to. The nickname of that Pokémon was an actual number (not trying to make up an excuse or anything). Pattyman 00:39, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
It was not the number six issue, it was when I placed parenthesis around the word, anime. I saw it on the image's history. Pattyman 01:38, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Hey, you do know that you can add categories right from the upload form? Just add [[Category:whatever]] under the summary. Jellotalk 02:45, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Faster process for me then. Pattyman 02:48, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
One more thing. If possible, make sure you italicize and link the anime eps. For instance, for Hatching a Plan, it'll be ''{{bp|EP230|Hatching a Plan}}'', which comes out as this: Hatching a Plan. I know it'll be a bit more work, but at least italicize them, thanks. ht14 23:04, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Edit warring

Edit warring is not tolerated here. You have been blocked for 1 day. The policy on Bulbapedia is that everyone who participates in said edit war gets blocked for the number of reverts they made, minus the initial revert. Please bring the issue up with an Administrator next time, instead of taking part in an edit war. Thanks. Jellotalk 03:58, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey :D!

If you find a problem with any of the moves, try switching them to the Mv template :D!

{{subst:Mv|Pokémon using move|Attack being used|Other Pokémon|gen}}

Thanks! --+ Joeshie + (is Me!) 03:10, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Do I type the Mv template in the Summary? Pattyman 03:25, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Yep, just delete everything there except for like moving templates and the {{subst:MV... thing will handle everything from categories to licensing :D --+ Joeshie + (is Me!) 05:34, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Regarding Trainer sprites

There has been a standard in regards to Trainer sprites that was out for a while now. However, I guess it wasn't explicitly shown in Bulbagarden Archives, however, it has been mentioned in the Bulbagarden forums. Anyhow, I've compiled a page in regards to the naming conventions of most images, as seen here. Any other questions, ask away on your talkpage. Thanks in advance. ht14 00:33, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Regarding Sinnoh Location images

Those moves that you requested... those images exist at that filename location. Make sure that the filename that you request we move for any image actually does not exist. Thanks. ht14 04:14, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Sorry about that. I was just trying to get rid of the capital pngs and make the filenames better. Also, whenever I try to look at the candidates for moving page, the server stops for some reason. Any ideas? Pattyman 04:55, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
Just wait for now. The servers aren't exactly in the best shape these days. It's not your fault, but just be patient between move requests. ht14 04:58, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
Also, hold off on the move requests at the moment. There's only so much that we can handle as administrators, and some images have higher priority than others. Also, there are many things that are occurring at the moment, such as the new TCG expansions, BW images and moves to English names, and Pokémon Adventures files. So actually, it'd be great if you don't use the {{move}} template at all right now, thanks. ht14 03:58, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
I was planning to not use the move template for at least a week or two to see if the server is going to recover. Pattyman 04:28, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Never mind, the server just recovered. I am still not using the move template yet. Pattyman 04:40, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Hey Pattyman, remember how I was talking to you about moving images? Yeah, just be patient, please. And yeah, do not touch personal images unless they have non-alphanumeric characters in the filename. Thanks. ht14 05:02, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Indeed remembered. I thought things were back to normal. So it turns out that they weren't. I wouldn't have used it if the certain problem didn't occur. One more thing, how do you become an admin (not planning to become one yet, a little too early, just wanted to know). Pattyman 05:23, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
There's a lot to clean up at the Archives. It's just that I'm not as available as I once was. Here. By requesting to be an admin however, it reduces your chances in becoming one, just thought you should know. ht14 05:36, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes. Becoming one is a lot of work to deal with. Not just getting certain powers. Pattyman 06:31, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Sinnoh Image

Hi Pattyman. I saw that you uploaded a new version of the Ravaged Path map, but I noticed it was a tad blurry. I was curious as to where you located the map. Maybe we could find a better version. Cheers. —darklordtrom 04:25, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

I got it from the jpg counterpart (site, unsure). If you want, someone can place the {{bad image}} template on the png version (mentioning that it is blurry). Any ideas which sites I can get these game images from so I won't waste my time on copying the jpg ones? Pattyman 05:18, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Uploading newer images

Your image File:Lilycove Map.png is identical to File:Lilycovemap.PNG. Instead of uploading it at a new name, you should upload it over the old one and add {{move}} if it has a bad filename. --SnorlaxMonster 03:16, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

I was told twice not to use the move template anymore. But still, the new image advice was helpful. Pattyman 03:50, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
You misunderstood ht. D8. Back when he asked you to not use it, there were about a constant 50+ images with the move template on it and the category was just growing. We made a group decision to not use it for a while so we could get caught up on the moves, deletions and changing, especially at a time where the server was constantly giving us 503s and 504s. It's alright to use them, it's just not when there are 50+ images with the template on it. D: --P S Yライダー 04:19, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Oh, so that was what he told me. When you mentioned the 50 images load, are you referring to putting the move template on them in a row w/o any intermissions in between.* I noticed your name evolved. Pattyman 05:35, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Yeah that's what I was referring to. We appreciated the effort by everyone, but the category kept getting bigger, and we had to change them on the pedia, and then remove the move template, so we kinda just said no for a while, it's alright if you do, but we'd like it to be kept to minimum and maybe help out by removing them template after we move, or at least for the others, since I remove it before I move. But yeah, that's what happened. --P S Yライダー 05:56, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Okay, just to let you know, we know this category exists. We also know that about 1000 or so of these files need to be moved their correct names. So, I do not believe there is a need for you to place move templates on these, as this just creates 1000 or so more edits we need to make, removing the move template in addition to the 1000 or so edits we need to make on the Bulbapedia side, changing the file names. If you could focus your attention elsewhere where wouldn't notice right away that something needs to be moved, that would be appreciated. Thanks. You're doing a great job, by the way. Jellotalk 21:24, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
You're welcome. Removing it off my to-do list. I was going to put the category that needed to be moved but didn't know how [instead of placing the category on all of the images individually].Pattyman 21:34, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Nothing too major, but

Just so you know, it's not imperative that you reupload manga scans as pngs. They're fine as they are as jpgs because the wiki doesn't screw with them like it does anime images. It also looks bad on you that you're uploading someone else's hard work. Not blockable or anything, it was kinda just a heads up for you to know. --P S Yライダー 04:05, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks and understood. From now on, I am going to leave those images alone instead of reuploading them as pngs. I can still put the move template on them (few by few, not a whole bunch if necessary). It was a lot of work for me anyway to replace them as pngs. Pattyman 04:31, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
There is absolutely no work involved in re-uploading .jpgs as .pngs. It is frowned upon. I can't believe you'd even bring that up. What about the hours and and hours people like Zesty spent scanning these images? On top of that, people like Werdnae who in addition to scanning hundreds of images, also spend time cleaning up their images to prepare them for the Archives? Give credit where credit is due. It is up to them, and only them to decide if they want re-upload their scans as .png. Jellotalk 04:44, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Were you telling this to me? ?|* Pattyman 04:52, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes. Jellotalk 05:00, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
So no work was involved, I thought that it was. Seeing that it took a lot of effort to upload a good image, one that is satisfactory for Bulbapedia. Pattyman 05:28, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
You're not understanding things are you? Saving a .jpg as .png does not do anything. It does not change the image. You are not doing anything to the image except saving it as a .png. That is not work. The quality of an image does not change if you directly save it as a .png from a .jpg. When you upload those .pngs the .jpgs are expected to be deleted. But you didn't scan the image did you? You didn't do anything except save it as a .png. What about the original uploader who scanned it in the first place? Jellotalk 05:35, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
